  1. thanks. i made it a point to let him know twice in the whole thing that even if it WASNT upgraded, that the price he was asking for it was MORE than fair. you cant hardly even find an SD machine for that price, let alone a GP. what i think happened is that maybe he misunderstood when he got the machine, and maybe the guy sent it back to minelab for a once over and tune-up, and the guy mistook it for an "upgrade". i dont think that the guy, knowing that most gold detectorists use GP series machines, and knowing the experience with them floating around here would intentionally get on here and LIE in an attempt to sell the machine, i think it must have been a misunderstanding on his part, and when he was confronted with the evidence that contradicted what he said, instead of looking into it further and possibly correcting the ad and situation, he just blew up and got ticked off over it. maybe i should have just kept my mouth shut, but id have hated to see someone buy a detector and lay out that much dough just to find out that it was misrepresented ( weather it be intentionally or unintentionally). either way, like i said, the price hes asking for it ( even though he cussed me good and told me i made an enemy for like..lol) is still more than fair as far as im concerned. i found myself a looooong time ago that all it takes is one single find to pay for your detector, and with gold as high as it is, anymore it doesnt even have to be a BIG find......... believe me,im not going to looose any sleep over the whole thing, but i do wish him well and i really do hope he sells his machine.
  2. HAHAHA! funny how that works eh? i had this spot one time i was dredging, and i pulled around 2oz out of this area. funny thing was that it was mostly nuggets, and every single one of them weighted just between 1 and 1 1/8thdwt....looked like the suckers were classified or something down to that size....
  3. im sorry for the uproar. i asked a simple question about what had been done to "upgrade" the machine as when i had my extreme, right after the 3000 came out, i heard someone mention the same thing so i called and spoke to dick personally. he told me "the only way to upgrade an extreme is to buy a 3000", plus i had read about it in another thread on the forums here where you mentioned the same thing dick shultz had told me...i posted this info in the thread for the guy and he got real ticked to say the least, and he never would say who he bought it from.. he mentioned that he bought it from someone here on the forums who he trusts explicitly and if the guy told him it was upgraded at minelab, his word was as good as gold. i asked because i hadnt heard of any upgrade, and was curious as they might have came out with something since i spoke to dick. didnt mean for it to turn into an uproar...lol...seemed like his answer to the whole situation was to throw profanities at me on the forums...... anyway, sorry again for the uproar....
  4. boy that might just be a good idea to try!
  5. im sure someone here can point you in the right direction, but if not, we have a whole section full of research books and materials on my forums, and a section specifically dedicated for research questions, and a couple of guys who do nothing but answer those questions and help you do the research and find out the information you need. its a great resource, and books and pubblications are added to it everyday. you can look at the books section here: http://www.huntingforgold.net/viewforum.php?f=78 also, if youd like help with your research, you can sign up on the site and post your requests here: http://www.huntingforgold.net/viewforum.php?f=80 the research questions section is fairly new, but the guys who do the research are crackerjack at what they do, so it is worth a try. hope that helped ya out a little i have to agree with wes also, bulletin 193 has some gooood info in it
  6. i had that happen with a gold bug II one time. it got some black sand in the coil cover, and that sucker drove me crazy until i figured it out.

  8. i drive a 1990 chevy 3/4 ton 4X4......will go anywere rob years ago i bought a brand spanking new off the showroom chevy K5 blazer with factory 4" lift, chrome rims and HUGH tires, high gloss black metallic paint, etc. the very first thing i did with it is take it up to one of my claims and ran it right thru the manzanita......i figured that if i scratche dit a couple of times, i wouldnt worry about it. problem is, i dont know what they put in the paint on that sucker, but you couldnt hardly scratch it with a freaking rock!..best paint i ever had on a truck...only drawback is it had that nice buckskin tan interior.....that went from tan to dark brown to black in about a month ...lol ive own alot of prospecting trucks.7 (chevy,jeep,international,toyota,etc...the ones that stuck out the absolute best in my mind for being virtual goats 4x4 wise and never having a problems with were 1989 ford bronco II with V6 international scout jeep cherokee and my chev i have right now. i put a nice insulated snugtop camper shell on it awhile back so when i go out, if im by myself i can throw a matress in the back and air it up and be good to go....
  9. what he said personally, i have a pair of sunrays, a set of detectorpros, and a set of koss EU-30's, and as far as overall preformance, personally i prefer the koss myself. BUTY its like Rob said, it allk comes back to that little insignificant thing called personal preference....lol i know one guy how has a set of those big old over the ear 5lb humongogigantic radio shack tandy corp. headphones, and he swears by them. i even gave him a brand new set of koss one day because i thought it was that he just couldnt afford a good set, and hes never wore them, there still in the box. ive been threatening to buy a set of those that they keep advertising on TV, those bose "over the ear" headphones and check those out. also, one of these days when i can remeber, im going to buy a set of those new bluetooth "wireless" headphones for my 3500. ive got everything else setup on it so i dont have to wear a harness, and the only thing connecting me to my detector at this point is the headphones. would be sort of cool to have wireless ones.
  10. damn now you see why i just stick to doing my own thing.,........sounds like a bunch of hassle to me..lol
  11. NICE! i popped quite a few pieces in 2007, totalling about 13 oz or so. ive got a few pix ill post if i get a chance. hoping 2008 will be a much better year. found a few new places and patches in 2007, and worked a few others out. got some good spots eyeballed for 2008. im like a few others guys though, i generally sell them as i get them and as gold prices are favorable, but i think this next year ill hold onto my biggest stuff and have some jewelry made out of it.
  12. same thing here grubstake. we got about 5" up here above burney, and its supposed to snow more today, tonight and tomorrow. there saying we should get anywere from 5" to a foot or so. snow we got up here is so damn dry its like power/dust. you can pick a handful up and drop it and your hands virtually dry still...lol this was last nights picture about 8:00
  13. lunker hill is that at rye patch>? im planning on taking a 3-4 day trip to nevada to do some detecting this spring...im only about 4 hours from rye patch....anyone want to go along?
  14. yea, i didnt get the infinium as a main gold machine, i got it specifically for sniping bedrock in the deeper waters in some of the areas i work, and maybe as a backup for my GP if needed. i really cant wait though to fet it out in the field and play with it a little. right now our average high temp is about $20 degrees up where im at, and the ground is frozen solid....lol i do have a few spots down by redding i work from time to time, but havent gotten down recently. if we can get some halfway decent weather here in the next weekend or two, ill probably head down and work a bit.
  15. Rob i wish i could do that, but ill be in water anywere from 3 to 15 feet or so. i thought about using one of the waterproof coils for shallower water sniping, but to be honest with you, id be afraid id drop my whole unit right int he drink!...lol i havent gotten a chance to use the Infinium LS for gold yet, but i have found lots of nuggets with my GP detectors (using a GP3500 now as my main unit). ive found solids that range from a few grains to about 2 1/2oz+ , and quartz/gold speci's from 3-4dwt up to 1/2lb or so ( i own a 40 acre patented claim in el dorado county that has a free milling gold/quartz vein on it. very nice specimen and cabable pieces come off of it often). i have read though that the infinium is supposed to be pretty sensitive to small gold. havent done a whole lot of gold detecting since i moved up above redding, california ( but i am in a couple of outstanding old virgin coin and relic sites, one has ben there since the late 1800's, one since about 1915 and the other since about 1911) , but im sure eventually ill find someone in the area that would like to go do some detecting. im planning on spending quite a bit of time in nevada and arizona this summer.
