Counterfeit coins

Wanna be a counterfeiter? Here's how!

From making your own coins from scratch, or altering dates on real coins, or combining two real coins into a third coin, counterfeit coins have been around since the first coins were minted in 600 BC.

The latest instance of fakery centers around the 1883-S Morgan dollar. Coin faces are shaved off, and then two halves are pressed together to make a "new" coin which is much more valuable than the two coins you started with. (If that is hard to visualize, you'll see the photo when you click the link.)
