  21. Yay after a year and a half of searching with a TLST and finding oodles of shot, bullet fragments, and wire, I decided to purchase something a little more sensitive, the Makro Gold Racer. The second day out in the El Paso mtns, mojave desert, I find two nuggets, 0.3611 grams and 0.2114 grams inside small dirt clods. I admit I did little dance after each one. They sounded off pretty good though I still have my doubts on Makro's claim of detecting at 0.006 grams. Zonatatodd

  23. An outting with family and friends is always a good time. Especially when gold is found. I got a chance to try a new spot with my brother, son, and a friend and his 81 year old grandfather, Carl, for some nugget hunting. Carl has been a gold miner and trapper for a long time and has no problem getting around and is damn good with a medal detector. After we arrived, and a quick look around we each headed off in different directions to see what this new spot might have to offer. My first target was a very strong smooth signal, but it seemed kind of spread out, more so than a singal target, but not quite like multiple targets. I wasn't sure what to make of it or exactly where to dig. So I just started digging in the center of where the signal was comming from. Right off I was hitting bed rock and had to start breaking apart the rock. After pulling out some big chunks of rock and dirt I saw what the signal was. Small beads of mercury. Now this is a first for me, I have never found mercury with a metal detector before. I got a pan and scoop and started loading the dirt and mercury into the pan. The more I dug the larger the beads became. So I called the others over to have a look. It soon became clear there was a lot of mercury in there and a scoop just wasn't going to get it all. Thats when my son had an idea, he had with him a sniffer bottle, so he took over the recovery of the mercury and I went on looking for gold. After a while I came back to see how much mercury he had gotten, much to my suprise he had collected almost 3 ozt of the stuff (2.73 ozt). Turned out there were 2 really big pools about 10 inches apart and that was why the spead out signal. And then it was back to looking for gold. I soon found the first gold, a 1dwt chunck only 1 inch down. Carl wasn't having much luck, so my brother handed him a beer and told him this would guarantee that he would find a nugget, he just didn't say when. After Carl finished the beer he turned on the detector and found a nugget not two steps from where he was drinking the beer. Might be something to this. I didn't get a picture of Carl's nugget, but it was about 1 dwt also. Nobody else got any of the metalic gold that day but they sure got gold of another kind. Mark
  24. This world famous mini trommel is perfect for working in the bush, one person carry, using a high torque 12V car wiper motor. I'm selling all my placer equipment and I am pricing this one EXTREMELY low due to wanting to see it in a new home.. don't email me low ball offers.. this is the price, that's it!!!!! Also, please note, this unit is the original prototype that was used to design the production model of this mini trommel and it's big brother. The main difference being that this one I have has a removable second size screen included which the production units did not have (as you can see in the photos). I have an email from Angus MacKirk directly proving this fact, I had sent him pictures of my unit and he confirmed this is a one of a kind prototype. The unit is new and works great. Open to trade for solar panels or Minelab equipment. Make sure to see my other ads for more goodies....all placer equipment and claims is being sold... 25. Made it out Sunday with a good friend to the hunting grounds. Had a blast hiking all over the place and digging everything from square nails to a rusted out pocket knife. We hit one spot and decided to do a bit of clearing and overburden removal, and agreed to split the finds. I gave a stump the old mule kick as my partner had a good feeling about what was under it. Cleared away some ground and bam he got a nice signal right where the stump was. Turned out to be a nice little 3.5 gram pc. Was first detected with a GPX4500 and a sadie coil, I put my new to me 5000 over it with the 11" mono and it sounded great!! Good luck to all and get some au under those coils!!
