Admin nuggethunting Posted July 11, 2019 Admin Report Share Posted July 11, 2019 Hello All, A customer of mine shared one of his beautiful gold nugget/specimen finds with me last weekend. The piece was found with a Minelab GPX metal detector and NF EVO searchcoil and weights 88+ Grams. Congrats on the amazing find! 13

Grubstake1
You can tell that came out of a burn area. Grubstake
Admin nuggethunting Posted July 29, 2019 Author Admin Report Share Posted July 29, 2019 Hey Grubstake, You would be the expert on that in California. Are you saying that cause the quartz looks a bit more stained between the top pictures and then the one on the scale?

garikfox
I'm curious, how does one get the gold out of the "rock", Is it smelted by a 3rd party or is it easy to do at home? Or does it have more value leaving it in the quartz? Edited August 14, 2019 by garikfox
Admin nuggethunting Posted August 18, 2019 Author Admin Report Share Posted August 18, 2019 Hey Garikfox, A piece like this would be considered a specimen and would in my opinion be more valuable as it. That being said, some will crush up the rock and pan out the gold. This is pretty much what the old-timers would do on pieces like this and free milling gold ore. Today the market for buying/selling gold is different, there are collectors that really value these type of pieces. However, back in the late 1800's or early 1900's I believe it was about getting the gold, there wasn't any collectors or interest in "specimen value."
