grubstake
That detector is not going to be any good detecting gold nugget, where I go, most VLF's won't handle the minerals, and thats the Whites, Tesoro Lobo and the minelab VLF's. Yours is a very low end detector, if it does not have a manual ground balance, you will be out of luck, as the ground is hot even for the PI's. dave wiseman
Hello Openminds, you might want to visit your local libraries and historical society and see if you can get the mining reports for Mariposa county. This is one of the better counties for higrade. Also, the state of California has previously published mines and mineral reports for each county. One grreat book for your county is the California journal of mines and geology,volume53,numbers1and2,january-april1957.342 pages and maps..probably hard to come by,except in a library or private collection.I have a copy, but am not giving it up.Drive the county roads, paved and dirt and look for the seasonal creeks(dry),old workings and quartzveins in road cuts.Any ravine, gully, depression in the ground andeven rivulets may hold something in such a highgrade county.Access will beyour biggest obstacle...Dave
