Zippoz
Hi!I have always had a touch of the gold fever since i was a young boy, on vacation in colorado with my parents panning for gold. These days Im a land developer out in lovelock nevada, i have quite a few hundred acres a few miles from the Relief Canyon mine which just re opened with an estimated reserve of $40 million...While i dont think that there is much if any gold on my land (sandwitched between 2 lvery large iron mines) I have read that pershing county has quite a few oportunites for nugget shooting, including the majuba hill area near rye patch, and several of the old mining towns in the humboldt range. So basically Im looking for a little help to get started in this fun hobby. I have about a grand to spend on a detector, and the local tradin post sellls mine lab's .I was considering getting the Eureka Gold as its in my price range (they sell it for $1000).. but was wondering if this is a good choice as its VLF, and not MPS like the 4000.... there is also a $600 detector, but it looked like a piece of crap.anyhow, Thanks a million, i can use all of the help i can get
rexb
The Eureka's a good detector and will probably do pretty well in NV at least compared to the hot (mineralized) ground found in parts of AZ. The depth won't be as good as a PI system. Here's some Nevada map links, etc.:http://nevadanuggethunters.myfreeforum.org...da_about12.htmlhttp://www.nevadadot.com/traveler/maps/quadindex/http://nevadanuggethunters.myfreeforum.org...ca_about14.htmlhttp://nevadanuggethunters.myfreeforum.org...hlight=pershing

Digger Bob
Wow, thanks alot for the links, lots of info i hadnt seen before I just cant wait to get out there and search!I know its a tough question to answer, but as a beginner, do you think that i can expect to find somthing after searching for a whole day, or do you think that it would take me a week, month or year before i actually find a nugget? If you get a PI machine, your odds of finding gold quicker go up. I would suggest looking for a used 2100. You should have no problem finding one in your price range. Then take it out to Rye Patch and start swinging. It may take an hour or a month, you never know. I've been out there for a week and gotten skunked. But I was there for 3 hours a few weeks ago and found one in the first 5 minutes. It could have been found with a VLF machine, only 2 inches deep. BUT, it was under a piece of discarded wire someone else had found, wadded up, and tossed aside. Dig holes all around. You just never know.To my knowledge, not much has been found south of the main hunting area. That's not to say it isn't there, just not found yet. It's entirely possible. WAYYYY too much ground for everyone to cover. That's the way it is in Nevada, it can be just about anywhere, and where you least expect it.Digger Bob
