Zippoz
I was looking at getting these 2 products, #1) the gold screw trommel, for bulk sampling of claims, apparently it can handle about 2 yards an hour. I can pick one up used for about $2,000\http://www.goldscrew.com/prod03.htm#2) the Shaw Backpack core drill , apparently its able to do 20 feet without issue, and can go as deep as 50 feet on any angle.http://www.backpackdrill.com/backpack_core...core_drill.htmlwhat do you all think? Uncle Ron
Hi Zip & all...We used to use a gold screw set up to process the cons of our mining operation in N. CA in the early '80's ... We processed 5 large drums of cons per day... When the mine finally closed down, I happened one day to go over the gold screw tailings (we had done the process at my ranch) with my gold bug 2 and started finding nuggets...So I ran the entire batch of tailings through a sluice box and, guess what? Found 7+ ounces of 2 to 4 DWT nuggets and one 1.75 ounce nugget stuck inside the gold screw itself...The moral is that the gold screw is great on fine gold but spits nuggets over 1 dwt out like a kid spittin' watermelon seeds .... Cheers, Yer Unc in the Dubyah

Cheers, Yer Unc in the Dubyahthanks alot for the reply Unc well it seems that i should be able to beep those out without too much troubble or perhaps re-run the tailings through a sluice at the output of the machine.im going to be doing all of this on private property, so i wont get any hell from the BLM
Zippoz
someone here told me that the keene hydromatic jig would be a far better choice, could process 10x more and had a higher recovery rate, and all that for less than half the price, what do yall think? Uncle Ron
Actually, if you are in the right location with a running creek, for about $50 you can build a very serviceable cedar board sluice box that will perform better than or equal to the mechanical devices...I've always found that the difference in gold recovery between complex equipment and simple gravity and water operated equipment is nil...Only difference is that in very cold weather a bottle of Southern Comfort, nipped discreetly on a regular basis throughout the day, produces a slight edge in gold recovery, or , at least, perceived gold recovery...My plan of operations called for 1 five gallon bucket of screened bench material to 1 nip of that sweet southern gold....It's like bein' in the woods with Janice Joplin after a while...Maybe you just had to be there Cheers, Unc
