Hey Tom,

That is correct, sample, sample and re-sample! If water was not available, the old-timers would dry pan or drywash the material. They might even bring water in if the water source wasn't too far away. They might even take the material to a water source. This is one reason thousands of dry placers are still good places to search for gold. The climate was arid and water was too far away to make it economic to work. Metal detectors and drywasher/vac-pacs can make good finds in many old dry-placers.
