NvDoug
It has been a while since I have been in that area, but I have been all over it. I lived in Columbia State Park (3mi N. of Sonora) for 6 yrs and used to go a place called Natural Bridges. A good shadey place where the creek eroded cavern thus creating a Natural Bridge. You can swim all the way through it, as we did many years ago... Any who... lots of rocks and cracks and little pockets to check out.. and a swimming hole to cool off in. Take the road through Columbia State Park (Paroits Ferry Rd.) cross the brigde (New Melonies Lake) a few miles down there should be a sign on your left and the road curves alittle to the right there. It is a little hike down to the creek but well worth it..Good Luck and watch out for snakes...
NvDoug
Ohh Ya, A buddy was remodeling a store in downtown Sonora years ago and during his lunch break he walked in the creek bed that runs right through downtown and found a lil nugget laying on top of the bedrock. If you come up the old road through Jamestown (not the bypass) and when the road "T"s" in downtown Sonora turn left towards Columbia. The creek runs right underneath the shops but I think you can get to it from a little rest area with benchs on the left.. its only a block er two down from the left turn at the light.. I haven't been over that way in years... sooo I'm not sure how it all looks now.Take Care,

vini
If you get a chance go check out this mine site, gotta be a little sneaky getting in, its in Jamestown. On the highway that you go up to get to the mine site, below the road is a creek WOODS creek I believe. might check that out but becareful its all private property but hunt around you can also go down to Ibar on Italian bar road out of Columbia thats the Stanislaus river, GPAA has claims there and there are private claims also but I found gold right in a ditch along the road down to Ibar, lots of sign signs every where are signs...........whats new
