Continued cold and windy at times Friday through Monday...A cold low pressure system from the northwest will move throughsouthwest California. It is expected to bring significant coolingwith much lower snow levels... strong gusty west winds in themountains... deserts... and coastal waters... and light to locallymoderate precipitation amounts along and west of the mountains. Thiscold and locally windy pattern is expected to persist into earlynext week.* Rainfall Thursday morning... with the passage of the coldfront... rainfall is expected to range from less than one tenthinch near the coast to around one quarter inch in the mountains.* Rainfall totals through Thursday night... showers are expected tocontinue mainly near the mountains Thursday afternoon and decreaseThursday night with rainfall totals from late Wednesday nightthrough late Thursday night ranging from around one tenth inchnear the coast to one quarter to one half inch in the mountainswith locally greater amounts.* Snowfall for Thursday and Thursday night... snow levels will lowerto 3500 to 4000 feet Thursday morning... 3000 to 3500 feet Thursdayafternoon... and 2500 to locally 2000 feet Thursday night. Snowfallof a few inches is possible above 3500 feet with local amounts toaround 6 inches above 5000 feet. There could be local amounts ofan inch or two in portions of the upper deserts.* Winds for Thursday and Thursday night... strong gusty west windsare expected in the mountains and deserts Thursday through lateThursday night. Strongest winds with local gusts to 65 mph areexpected late tonight through Thursday afternoon in San BernardinoCounty mountain and desert areas and during Thursday afternoon andevening in the mountains and deserts of Riverside and San Diegocounties.* Temperatures... high and low temperatures around 10 to 15 degreesbelow average are expected for Friday through Monday with minorwarming possible for Tuesday.* Frost and freeze... many inland areas could have several hours ofsubfreezing temperatures each night from Friday night throughMonday night with temperatures in inland valley and some LowerDesert areas in the 20s and locally in the upper teens. Growersshould take precautions to protect sensitive crops.* Impacts for Thursday and Thursday night... driving through themountains may be difficult at times due to locally reducedvisibility... slick roads... strong winds... and snow. Travel alongInterstate 8 in the San Diego County mountains and Interstate 15through the Cajon Pass may be impacted by snow and strong gustywinds.* Impacts for Friday through Monday... frost is possible in westernvalley and some coastal areas each night.
