newby
I’m a newbie who has never owned a detector before but have decided to get either a Eureka gold or a GMT. I will be hunting in dry riverbeds and old gold mines in Ca. Thoughts likes dislikes, any information will be of use. Thanks
Lamar
Dear newby;I bought a very slightly used GMT from Rob Allison and it is a very nice unit! I especially like it's iron discrimination feature.Your friend;LAMAR
donpoteet
I have'nt used a GMT but I had a eureka gold. I had really good luck with it. A friend of mine took his GMT out to my place and I had better luck, becuase the ground is really hot here. He did find 1. It might be how well you know your detector to. He took his headphones off and let me listen, and all I could hear was noise I wouldnt trade my minelab Good luck.
Admin nuggethunting Posted April 28, 2006 Admin Report Share Posted April 28, 2006 Hello Newby, I personally haven't used the White's GMT, but have used the White's MXT. I like the Minelab Eureka cause it has three freqs vs. other gold hunting VLF's with just one operating freq. You might also consider the newest Minelab X-Terra 70 if you also like to coin/relic shoot. Hope this helps,Rob Allison
Big Ed
Hey Newby,I never used GMT, but I have ML Eureka, It's a great for vlf, now using ML PI GP3500, I think its easer to use than vlf - I would save a little more & get a SD 2100 or 2200v2;-)Good Luck,Ed
Admin nuggethunting Posted May 1, 2006 Admin Report Share Posted May 1, 2006 Hello Newby, I would agree with Big Ed, if you're able to hold out and save a bit more, a Minelab SD would be the choice. Going from a VLF to a Minelab SD is like night and day! The SD's are practically immune to even the worst mineralization and get twice the depth as the VLF. The disadvantage is very small gold, you will have an advantage on small gold (3-4 grain stuff and smaller) with the VLF. If you even have questions, feel free to email me anytime - auplacers@yahoo.comGood luck with your choice,Rob Allison
