buffalochip
Does anyone out there know anything about the gp extreme 18" mono? I picked one up that is brand new and intend on using it on my gpx 5000. How does this compare as far as sensitivity and depth to the 18" commander? Just curious, thanks ahead of time for the help. Reno Chris
The 18 inch coil that came as original equipment with the GP Extreme is a DD coil, not a mono.

cp90macs
My friend just bought a 18" Extreme coil too, but I haven't try it yet on my 5000. I would be interested in the results you get. Please keep us posted!More Au to you, Robert
Admin nuggethunting Posted March 28, 2012 Admin Report Share Posted March 28, 2012 Hey Guys, Just like Chris Ralph stated, the Black 18-inch Extreme searchcoil is a DD, not a Mono. That being said, by flipping your coil switch to "Normal" on the GP Extreme's control box, you can toggle from DD to Pseudo Mono (1/2 Mono coil). This method works best when you're using the DD and want to pinpoint or narrow in on a target. The stock 11-inch round is also the same. Hope this helps,Rob Allison
buffalochip
how deep will this coil go and how sensitive is it compared to a mono the same size? A friend of mine bought one too and says it is dd, but should be a good patch finder, thanks for the help, Chip
Admin nuggethunting Posted March 29, 2012 Admin Report Share Posted March 29, 2012 Hey Buffalochip, There are many factors when you talk about depth. Some of the major ones are detector used and settings, size of coil, size of target, conductivity of target, shape and orientation of the target & mineralization are just a few.The is no doubt a true Mono 18-inch will achieve more depth than a 18-inch DD. You will get better sensitivity if you flip the coil swtich to Mono and use 1/2 of the DD coil as a Monoloop. Also, when it comes to coils, the general rule of thumb is smaller coils are better for tight areas, smaller gold near the surface and lighter to manuever. As you increase the coil size, you drop some sensitivity to small gold, but increase coveage per swing and depth on larger targets. There is also a general rule of thumb when it comes to elliptical vs. mono's. You can take the lenght + wide (example, 10x5) 10 + 5 = 15 and divide that number by 2 (15/2 = 7.5 inches). This will give you a approx side it would be to a Mono. That being said, a 10x5 elliptical is like having a 7.5-inch round coil. Hope this helps a bit,Rob Allison
