I guess I'm going to be a TV star

Recommended Posts

Just got a call from a French TV staion, doing a show on gold prospecting, and asked if they could interview me along with a friend, tomarrow. I plan on Giving ROB, DOC, and Coiltek a little credit for my gold hunting success. They deserve it along with a good plug for Jim Straight. Well see how it goe's. Grubstake

Well I guess I'm not going to be on TV, after talking with them, seems like they were looking for someone, who makes a living from detecting, due to losing there job, because of the resession, I call it a DE-Pression myself. Anyaway I know lots of people, but none making a living off of detecting, I told the guy,its a hobby, not a living. He was dissapionted, but thats how it is. I bet I know atleast a hundred guys that detect for gold, all have other incomes, not one makes it on only the gold he finds detecting. Sounds like a French pipe dream to me. <_< Grubstake

No ROB, they talked to several people, hoping to get the angle on the economy they wanted, but its not going to happen around here, unless some lie's, I guess if you had a vehicle, that was payed for, no other bills, was single, willing to live out of your tent or camper, You might be able to get by, but then you have to figure in gas, up-keep for your vehicle, food, water, breakdowns, tires, insurance for your vehicle, registration. and misc. expences. Maybe you could sqeak by. But I don't think for very long. Grubstake

That sure does NOT sound like me.. glad I'm in a more or less secure position, with security a positive factor in employment these days. Take care , Gary...

Grubstake - I talked to a guy about the same thing in January, only he was Irish. He was looking for folks who took up prospecting full time because of lack of work from the bad economy. I couldn't really help him. Must be a European thing - looking for American prospectors.

Reno Chris, I guess so, he said they went to Sonora, to Gold Expedistions, He said they just took people out and let them pan for gold, and if they didn't get any, they would spike the dirt. He said he wanteed to find some real FULL TIMERS, making a living off the gold they fould detecting, because of the economy, that had lost thee jobs, got layed off or down sized. I told him, You would need a supplemental income of some kind, because, no one on unemployment, is going to report that there finding and selling gold, they would be cutting there own throats. Being from France, he thought you could just go anywhere and mine gold, and make a living. They were at the Califorina Mining and Mineral Museum and I think the displays they had got him and his movie crew on the wrong track. Grubstake I guess when he found out, I only did it as a hobby and was lucky if I could get out one or two days a month, it poped his bubble.

I don't THINK SO! whatsforsupper, rent, electric, propane, food, auto insurance, co-pay on meds{alot}, gas for DRS. Visits, auto upkeep, and if were lucky, there a little to split between my wife and I for personal stuff. The Math doesn't work out too good most times. Oh I forgot, internet and phone. Last month we spent over $500.00 on food, over a $100.00 in med co-pays, electric around $60.00, $365.00 propane bill, rent $425.00, phone around $50.00 gas for the car, $100.00 and $189.00 for garbage{a three month bill} only get billed every three months for that. My auto insurance is payed ever 6 months, its $252.00 and was due this month. Now with all that, I don't think I can just live on the gold I find. If I did, I would have to be drunk{I don't drink, never did} or drugged up and I've never done that either. So figure that out of $1600.00 a month. Thats what my wife and I get together. That left about $89.00 to split, for our personal stuff, like oil for the car, yeh. My wife don't drive, so she figures it should come out of my money, + she gives 10% of hers to the church. so, when your already on the bottom, you don't have to worrie so much, no where to go! But UP! Ha! Ha! Grubstake

Hey dude, I am there with you, too much bill, not enough coming in to cover the 'challenges'. besides, being a big movie star may not mean you have enough cash, maybe just another 'pretty' face. ha ha.

We're all on this big buggy balancing act with finances, and even a relatively small matter can topple the throne and put us in a real bind.

And politicians.... short and brief- none have had a real job, and not much working class common sense, if any. Obama is doling out enough money to corporations that would pay for 6 afganistans and iraqs. then he gives it to people that have blown billions with their little con games, instead of forking it over to the working and non-working stiffs, who would spend it on a car or something, from which all govt would reap the tax income. No, nothing for us low lifes- everything for the upper crust and the bonus crowd.

Yeh your right Whatsforsupper, I figure the money would have been better off in our hands, 300,000,000 people in the Us as of the last cencus, they could give us all say $250,000 each, I'd spend it buy a new pick-up, lots of food, pay all my bills off, go detecting, buy a new detector, wife would buy new outfits, all the money would go back into our economy, not the pockets of corparate rapists. Yah, but if they gave us individuals the money how would Acorn survive and register 1000s of non-existant fradulent voters without the Billions they got from the Prez? He needs those fradulent votes to get re-elected.

When I talked with the guy who spoke to me, I told him that many thousands of folks went out to the hills to prospect for survival during the great depression, but things are different now, we just pay everyone welfare to sit at home an watch Opra on TV. No need these days to head out to the hills and work to feed your family, just sit at home and wait for the mailman to deliver your welfare check.

Grubstake, besides water pumps for sluices and metal detectors, we have at one big advantage over the gold rush old-timers and depression gold hunters that they did not have, it is called mobile RV's with very comfortable living, that they could only dream of. Live a permanent full-time RV lifestyle(trailer, 5th wheel, truck camper, campervan, etc.) staying in the southern states with mild to warm weather in the winter and anywhere in the summer with cheap living expenses, is the answer in these hard times.

Find various free places to camp, also get inexpensive permits to camp in the bush or desert, join GPAA-LDMA-or other clubs and camp on their claims-leases, stake your own placer claim and live on that, buy some cheap vacant land, know a friend or relative with an acreage or 160 acres, all where you can live in a self-contained RV(built in gray-black water and drinking water holding tanks that need draining and filling about once every week or two), or cheaper weekly/monthly rates at RV Parks. Is good advice and ideas to live cheaply and get mobile to get out to get the gold more often in tough times.

Goldstonehigh, at one time we did that, had a good pickup, a 30ft fifth wheel trailer, and bought 6 acs. in Stillwell OK. we lived there about 6 months, tornado season came, and we had one come right through the land we owned, after it was over, she said" You can stay if you want! I'm going back to Mariposa" I sold the land, my trailer, and we been here ever since. Seems she didn't like them 100ft tall post oaks snapping off and the baseball sized hail. My wifes Ideal of roughing it, is no mall within 40 miles, no motel without room service, Although she was pretty good when we were full time longhaul trucker, she likes to go, but she also likes to stop. So here we Be!. Grubstake

Wow Grubstake, I hear you loud and clear, but you should have done prior research to buy land in Tornado Alley, Oklahoma. If you bought land in Arizona where almost the whole state is a natural disaster free zone or in southern Colorado or someplace in Texas like Austin or San Antonio. But you are in Mariposa, California? which is a good place but a little cool in the winter as my Aunt lives north of you near Loomis being near Auburn, CA on an acreage. Don't give up after just one bad experience! Keep going on (safe)adventures with the wife.

I could never figure out why any people buy land and houses in flood zones and forest fire areas with the bush close to their house, etc. with the most expensive investment of their lives in without doing very simple prior research.

just joking, but there must be a lot of anti-god people in tornado alley. If god doesn't like where somebody is living, he sends the tornado to move them out or someplace nearby. problem is, people go right back where they were and rebuild, and don't pay no attention to god's moving company.

If only He'd lighten up and cut a few breaks. I mean, how hard would it be for Him to dump somebody and their RV right on a good pocket and easy pickens? I guess he figures all those times we didn't pay no mind to his requests, and now the ball's in our court, He ain't about to pay any attnetion to our pleas.

Whatforsupper, your right, my wife always tells me"I'm the only one you have to please" and Gods the only one you have got to answer too! So here I am in Mariposa, I guess I should have never left to begin with. Besides this is where the golds at.<_< Grubstake
