ATV - Transporting My GP 3000

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Well,I did it...I picked up a very nice Yamaha Bruin 4x4. Now that the desert here is Southern CA is too wet for dry washing, it's time to fire up the GP 3000. So for those of you who use an ATV, what type of cargo carrier are you using to transport your metal detector. I see many choices out there, just wondering what you use?

Thanks

Hello DesertDigger,

I picked this box up at Sportsman's Warehouse here in Arizona. I really like this one. I can place two Minelab metal detectors and all the accessories in this box. There are also two smaller compartments in the front for added cargo.

Hope this helps,

Rob Allison

That's a cool setup Rob! I have a large plastic box for all my extras (scoops, cords, extra tea bottles), helmet (CA BS), then made an aluminum box w/ a padded slit up front. The electronics and push button handle of the detector are well padded w/ thick eggcrate foam and secured. The shaft is collasped fully and even with a 17E coil, I have no clearance problems with the handle bars or legs. Makes for a quick setup, get and go. Will try to get a pic tomorrow.

Finally got pic. This setup is quick and go. Never liked putting detector cross-ways (like in gunrack); too easy to catch in brush and not real secure.

Cool Shep, I like the lockbox setup. That is some really red dirt! looks like OZ.

Transport your MDer in some sort of FOAM lined container. You can buy that inexpensive(about 2" thick)"waffled foam" used for sleeping on, made for beds that go over top of a spring matteress. I cut my up to the size I want.

You can buy a Rubbermaid ActionPacker and then line it inside with foam, to put your MDer in. About the very best big size plastic box I have ever seen.

>>Also this may help, here are cases that you can use to carry your metal detector and coils:

Besides Wal-Mart gun and bow cases, also look at Pelican Cases---Hardigg Cases---UK Cases...high quality storage and carrying cases for metal detectors...you have to get one wide enough, but these 3 below ARE my favorites:

UK Cases:

I like this one, this Hardigg case is awesome:

The best cases at Pelican for a metal detectors(MDers) are models 1700, 1720, 1730, and 1750...get olive green or beige but not black for the direct sunlight...you will be very please with these waterproof cases...

>>1) Halliburton Zero cases: http://www.zerohalliburton.com/index.jsp

2) I have an old hard shell Samsonite plastic luggage-suit case that would also work for a metal detector case with foam put inside.

3) A person can also make his own MDer case at home if you are handy, out of about 3/8" to 1/2" plywood, piano hinges or regular hinges, and with foam. (A person could get foam from a bedding shop, buy foam used for under sleeping bags, or the waffled foam used for putting over a bed mattress, then cut this to fit.)

4) On my Garrett GTI 2500(which I did not like and sold) it came from the factory with a soft outer shell case nylon with cut foam inserts formed to fit the metal detector.

Minelab use to have a case from them for the GP-Extreme but stopped and made none for the GP-3000. Hope this all helps!
