Hi Big Ed,

That is a real nice, clean looking mods. I recognize some of the components, but how about sharing a part list and the time that took to do it. Thank you for sharing.

More Au to you, Robert

Hey Ed,

Very nice! Thanks for the referral, I really appreciate it. The GP Extreme looks great and I'm sure he is going to love the new Goldscreamer Power Pack. This system is one hot seller for any Minelab PI unit (SD, GP or GPX series). We always have them in stock if anyone is looking for one.

One you use one, you will never go back to the Minelab stock battery system! :P

Take care,

Rob Allison

Thanks Rob & Robert,

Reed, had the old brick batteries, and metal upper rod. Added Gold Sreamer Pack, Carbon Fiber upper with 4 lower rods, Minelab handle assembly "Riverman", did the Mod. From NV Nuggethunter Forum, and cleaned it up some and added shrink tubing, also noticed the ground wire was loose. Also ordered Platypus DD Pro. GP Extreme, 11 Minelab Black coil & 18" Minelab Black coil, and Hard case...

Ed

Hey Guys,

To be perfectly honest, I have had my best luck (success) with the GP Extreme over all Minelab PI's. I know you probably won't hear that often from a Minelab dealer trying to push the latest and greatest, but it's the truth!

Now keep in mind a few facts, the GP Extreme was the first GP series detector following the SD series. Minelab claimed the GP Extreme was able to achieve 55% more depth on small gold and 18% more depth on larger gold. Without a doubt, there was some truth to this. I found many pounds of gold with this unit, but at the same time had hundreds of areas to roam over following a change in technology from the SD to GP series. I believe this was one of the biggest jumps in performance from what I have seen and probably was one of the major contributors to my success with the GP Extreme.

I now have a like new, GP Extreme as a backup to my GPX-5000. I'm sure my wife will be using the Extreme when we go out.

Take care,

Rob Allison

After doing this mod, I would have to say it is a great mod for the GP Extreme and the GP 3000. Its not hard to do at all. It will help you keep the machine ground balanced as opposed to just putting up with a little ground noise because its a pain to ground balance. The mod won't make the machine work like a GP 3500 or GPX series in that, with a 3500 or a GPX, with the panel switch in tracking and the handle switch is depressed it goes into fixed. All you can do with the Extreme and 3000 is place the panel swicth in fixed (the switch is off in this position) and when the button is pushed it goes into tracking. But its still better than doing some kind of monkey dance just to ground balance.
