Reno Chris
Its a whole lot different from any other coil we've all used.
AZNuggetBob
Extra fine wire Straight wound and a braid, very interesting. Is that a stacked braid?Wow these guys are off the chart in outside of the box thinking. AzNuggetBob
Reno Chris
The braid is Litz wire, used by several PI coil makers to reduce skin effect conductivity.
AZNuggetBob
ChrisI used Litz wire but its not braided and mine was teflon coated. AzNuggetBob
goldstudmuffin
That minelab 20" super D is going to be very very heavy... If the 14 super D goes 40% deeper will the 20" go 60% 70% deeper?
Reno Chris
I agree that most Litz is twisted bundles, not woven or braided, but some is:From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Litz_wire"consists of many thin wire strands, individually insulated and twisted or woven together, following one of several carefully prescribed patterns"(emphasis is mine). wes
Its good to see some percision craftsmanship going into these new coils!Though for sure the accessory ones will not be cheap. My guess: $1000 plus??
AZNuggetBob
I've built a few coils but never seen anything like this. I'll bet it won't work onanything else but a 7000. also wondering what the ic board is for?. AzNuggetBob
Reno Chris
I'll bet it won't work on anything else but a 7000.I think you are 100% correct on that one and most probably the reverse also, nothing else will work on a 7000.They call it a smart coil in the paperwork, perhaps the little board tells the detector its a 14 inch coil as opposed to the accessory coils that will be available in time. ahorton10
Is the new technology more in the coil or the detector? It seems like it could be a new coil type thats creating the extra depth. I realize theyre using a change in polarity rather than a pulse but is the coil the driving factor? If thats the case could we expect to see super d coils for gpx detectors in the near future?
Reno Chris
could we expect to see super d coils for gpx detectors in the near future?Extremely unlikely.
AZNuggetBob
I agree ChrisIm sure Minelab has this well covered with patents. Im thinking that the move for coiltek to build coils for Minelab was a good move for both of them. AzNuggetBob
