IronMike Posted July 12, 2010 Report Posted July 12, 2010 Hi Rob,I took a guy out a couple of weeks ago that has one of these new 705's. At first we were going to let him run the spare TDI thinking this TOY would not be able to run but that X-Terra flat out amazed me. It took to the ground mineralization like my Extreme with a 16" DD and off he went. I only heard from him once during the day when he got turned around and was heading the wrong way on a road. While none of us found any gold that day, we all dug lead and nails and the X-Terra came in with more than its share. Wish we could have done some side by side testing but we were all to desperate to satisfy our gold fixes and had spread out to far and did not hook up. From what I've seen, this would be a great starter unit for someone. Light weight and easy to use. Take care.Micheal
Admin nuggethunting Posted July 12, 2010 Author Admin Report Posted July 12, 2010 Hello Mike, The Minelab X-Terra 705 is an amazing, completely digital metal detector. It's probably the best multi-purpose coin, relic and gold nugget hunting detector available. I sell a lot of the X-Terra 705's, but this new "Gold Pack" will sell much better here in the Southwest for nuggetshooters. I pre-ordered a large batch of the "Gold Pack" 705's and I'm down to just a couple left in stock. I'm sure once the Winter season rolls back around here in the Southwestern US, these new 705's will sell very well. Yes, the 705's are impressive, not only for coins/relics but for nuggetshooting also. Take care,Rob Allison
TXKajun Posted July 17, 2010 Report Posted July 17, 2010 Rob, I know you don't solicit testimonials, but I just can't let this go by. I bought an XTerra 705 from you, what, a year ago? Yep, I got several coils to go along with it. As usual, Rob had the best deal online or in person.I've been using my 705 almost every weekend since then. I don't do hardly any nugget hunting, but I use the heck out of it at parks, playgrounds, schools, beaches and homesteads. My treasure hunting buddy swings a DFX and I routinely out-hunt him. He's had his detector about 6 months longer than I've had my 705, so we both are fairly experienced. Lately, we've had to go further and further afield. We live in a pretty small town, about 25,000 people, and we've hammered every public place we can get to. 3 weeks ago, we went to a little larger town west of us. We each found over $7.50 in change, but I ended up with a 3.5 gram 10k gold bracelet! Last weekend, we headed north and came away with about $5 each again, but this time, I ended up with a beautiful .925 silver ring with 2 tiny diamonds and a beautiful aquamarine stone. I mainly use the DD coil that you're selling on your "Gold Special" deal. It's not only a nugget-finder, but it's also a metal detectorists dream coil.Anywho, in the last year since I've had the 705, it's been a fantastic detector. Without a doubt, the best one for the money on the market. And, of course, we all know about Rob's sales and service and follow-up!Nuff said.Kajun
DOC Posted July 18, 2010 Report Posted July 18, 2010 I'll tell you a little story as my contribution to this thread. Many dealers "in the know" have realized this is a sleeper gold detector. And as far as my personal opinion goes, it surpasses the Eureka Gold and costs less. It has newer technology, it has greater versatility, coin relics and GOLD. greater choice of coils. AND here is a BIG FEATURE that people never even think about. It runs on 4 AA alkaline batteries. Just plain ol' ALKALINES. Not expensive 9 volt batteries, not some proprietary battery that will be come obsolete, just regular 48 for $10.95 at COSCTO alkalines. If you don't think that is a big deal then talk to the 20 or so customers who have called me this year looking for Minelab batteries for their XT18000 Gold machine, which was the forerunner of the Eureka Gold. "Doc. I need a new battery for my XT18000." "I am so sorry, Minelab isn't making them anymore." ...So now here they sit with a XT18000 which is a perfectly good little gold machine and no way to run it, unless you can find the alkaline battery pack adapter; those are getting scarce as hen's teeth too.Anyway, on with my story.A couple of very experience detectorists, who were well connected with Minelab HDQ in Las Vegas, go out to Gold Basin. They have GPX4500's. They find a gully that the old timers have just worked to death, but it is so trashy, they give up. One of them comes up with an idea. Hey next time we come out I will bring my Xterra 705 and we will go through the gully and discriminate out the trash, and mark the ground with Orange surveyor spray paint. Then we will come back with our GPX4500's and we will know which targets are trash because they will be marked.Well a funny thing happened. When they started using the Xterra 705 of course they were identifying trash targets, but they were also getting targets that were not trash, and low and behold, when they dug them up, they were nuggets. So they get through using the Xterra 705, and go back in with the 4500's, and ran the gully again, but no more gold was found, the Xterra did a bang up job of discriminating the trash and finding the gold. Now I have to mention that this gully was not very deep dirt to bed rock, so the awesome penetration power of the GPX4500 just wasn't needed and the Xterra was able to sniff out the gold amongst the iron trash. These two detectorists have told me that since that time, they never go prospecting with just the GPX4500, they always take along their Xterra 705 as well.In my opinion. The combination to have is the little 5 X 10 high frequency coil that comes with the Xterra 705 gold, then, get the 10 inch round DD high frequency coil for deeper ground. And if you are interested in coins and relics and beach hunting, invest in the 10 inch concentric medium frequency coil or DD. Extra coils are only $150 !!!Remember this technology is very cutting edge. When you buy any of the high frequency coils and put them on this machine it actually turns the machine into a GOLD MACHINE. With any other coil; the medium frequency or the low frequency coil, you can not go into the prospecting mode of the Xterra 705, you must have a HIGH FREQUENCY coil on the Xterra 705. The chip in the coil, tells the Xterra 705, "YOU ARE NOW A GOLD DETECTOR!" And you now have the ability to switch into prospecting mode. For $700 this is a great machine to add to your arsenal. And, like I said before, extra coils are priced very reasonably at only $150 each.To clear up any confusion, on the XTERRA 705 and the XTERRA 705 GOLD. The XTERRA 705 comes with a MEDIUM Freq coil standard, so you can not gold prospect unless you purchase an additional Gold coil. The Xterra 705 GOLD, comes with a 5 X 10 high freq gold coil in lieu of the 10 inch medium freq coin coil. Bottom line is they are the same machine, it is just which coil they are supplied with. The reason I tell you this is because I don't want people who have an Xterra 705 to think they have to run out and buy a new Xterra 705 GOLD. It is the same machine. If you want to hunt gold with your Xterra 705, just invest $150 for a high freq. coil and you can go prospecting.BCOT!Doc
Idaho Al83226 Posted July 29, 2010 Report Posted July 29, 2010 Hello all, I recently purchased a X-Terra 705 from Gerrys Detectors here in Idaho, I was'nt in to coin hunting but since I got the 705 I am now hooked, it came with the standerd coil and since then I have purchased the 9"DD and the elep.DD. I hav'nt had a chance to try the new coild yet but I am looking foward to giving them a work out in areas where my Gold Bug 2 struggles..in closing I find this machine VERY easy to use with a exelent instruction manual and so far I am very pleased with it.......There is my 2 cents worth....Idaho Al
Mitkof Posted July 31, 2010 Report Posted July 31, 2010 Dang it Doc... now you've got me thinkin' and that hurts. I bought a Eureka Gold from Gerry's (BOI) years ago and love it. I bought a WOT coil from Rob six months ago and love it too. But, as my single remaining functioning brain cell chews on your comments about the 705. I might have to look into one for Suzy as it sounds light enough for her. Have you done a Eureka vs 705, side-by-side??? Finally whos' website shows and discusses the many optional coils for a 705??? yours??? Robs??? Sounds like there are more than one or two coils on the market and also are the freqs labeled on them...? The 705 is very freq dependent to function properly. Your thoughts???Keep Smiling... Fritz
Admin nuggethunting Posted August 1, 2010 Author Admin Report Posted August 1, 2010 Hello Guys, The X-Terra series has become very popular over the last couple of years with the X-Terra 30, 50 & 70, but now it's the 305, 505 and 705. Doc is exactly right, if you have the original 705 with the standard 8.5-inch round, you don't need to purchase the X-Terra 705 Gold Edition metal detector. Just purchase the Pro-Pack for $149.95 (18.75kHz Ellptical Gold coil and Carry Bag), or just the coil alone to hunt for gold. Since they were selling so many X-Terra 705's and then customers purchase the coil, Minelab figured a stock 705 with the gold coil would work great for customers that are going to spend more time nuggethunting with the unit. With either 705 you can purchase the same coils for coins/relics or gold nugget hunting. I still have a couple of 705 Gold Editions in stock, but they are moving fast for the Summer time. I think this Winter this detector will be a very hot seller for the prices and performance you get from it. Take care,Rob Allison
Mitkof Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 Hi Rob, I have a question... running digital Xterra 705 in 18.75kHz next to analog Eureka Gold running in 20kHz will they effect either MD adversely???Keep Smiling... Fritz
Mitkof Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 ... follow-up Rob... The Freqs are too close, but with the waves so different. Would the Xterra ignore analog waves, and Eureka ignore the digital waves???Fritz...
Admin nuggethunting Posted August 2, 2010 Author Admin Report Posted August 2, 2010 Hey Fritz, To be honest, I'm not sure I have had both detectors close enough to notice. I could do a test here at the house to see what they do when I get some free time. I know the PI's effect the Eureka Gold and X-Terra series when they are close, but not sure I ever tried the Eureka and X-Terra 705 next to each other ....Will get back with you. Rob Allsion
Mitkof Posted August 4, 2010 Report Posted August 4, 2010 Hi Rob... ya might just want to talk to some ML techy folks about analog vs digital coil waves and their internal Eureka vs XTerra processors. It's a sine vs square wave question for ML electrical engineers to answer. I searched ML website but it's more focused on 'hype' and 'sell the product' over providing techy specifications and design data to the ML product user.Keep Smiling... Fritz
Mitkof Posted August 5, 2010 Report Posted August 5, 2010 Hi Rob and Doc… boy did I miss the boat on this ML 705 Digital Signal issue. In the ML XTerra 705 operation manual it specifically states “digital signal processing” but it also states “transmission single frequency Sine Wave” and “analog signal” showing an analog sine wave. I guess I’m thick as a brick on this new ML digital technology. My TV and FM marine radio are operating in true ‘digital wave’, so I assumed ML with cutting edge technology had finally perfected ‘digital signal’ metal detecting in their VLF 705… I was dead wrong. The ability to truly process digital wave signals in metal detection is still on the horizon. Bottomline: Only the ML 705 ‘processor’ is digital, but NOT the detection ‘signal’… My electric toothbrush says it has digital electronics too, so big deal. The ML 705 appears to use an enhanced analog sine wave… but it’s still sine wave technology. Sorry to have bothered you on this issue. You had me really excited for a few days but, I’ll go back to sleep now…Keep Smiling… Fritz
