Frank,

I've decided to bring a buttload of wood, so you're covered.

I'll make sure a stack has your name on it.

Look forward to meeting everyone and diggin in the dirt! :)

(Looks like GPAA, MPA & PAA will also be in the neighborhood so should be quite a party)

"Hey Kelly, When are you heading out to GB?

Bunk "

Hi Bunk,

I'm figuring on Thursday the 28th, although there's flexibility in my schedule.

I haven't been able to contact a Kingman firewood place by phone or email so I may try that Chino Valley one or something towards Phoenix.

Sounds like a great time comin! :)

P.S. Here's a photo of my "RV" - pretty easy to spot:

Lucked out and got firewood in Congress today - Mike Yacos 27030 Hwy 89 Congress, AZ 85332 (928) 427-0129 Mike's Website

He hooked us up with 1/2 cord of mixed for $100 - That's a lotta wood! :o

So, since I'm driving heavy I'll head to Gold Basin Monday or Tuesday.

See y'all out there!

Frank,

I dropped all the wood just west? of Bunk's camp a little.

Your pile has a grey tarp over it marked Frank C only - hopefully you'll get it before any gypsies wander by ;)

You're welcome to more; I just wanted to make sure some was reserved for you.

Bunk said it's been too windy at night for fire but looks like that'll die down by Thursday.

I look forward to meeting you and everyone else out there in gold country! :)

Directions update:

I'm directionally challenged.

Even with Doc's map, GPS and Google Satellite view I still got a bit off track going to camp site.

A few tips:

1. Greg's Hideout road was fine in my truck, but I can see what Doc meant by possible spinouts.

When you see dips with sand and the tracks are deeper than normal keep your speed up.

If I'd been going slow I might've gotten stuck a couple of times.

2. The name of road at 2nd cattle guard is Gladiola.

3. That fork you go left at- you can see a bunch of RV's and a 1-story house to your right.

That's where you bear left downhill and go thru wash.

Keep following that road and look for Bunk's bright orange truck off to the right.

From Pierce Ferry Rd:

Left on Greg's Hideout - sign

Left on Spring Dr - sign

Right on Hideout rd - sign

2nd cattle guard Left on Gladiola - sign

Becomes Gold Basin rd (never saw a sign)

Left fork at N 35 52.317 -114 14.039

Follow road to camp site at 35 52 50 -114 13 55

Gawd- what a blast hanging out with this groovy cast of characters at the Basin.

VIDEO HERE (all 3 less than a minute)

PHOTOS HERE (Click on one photo and you can Next thru the rest)

Thanks to Calvin and Frank for their dedication in organizing and carrying out this event. Also for guiding us to claims and hosting the coin shoot.

Thanks to Rob, Doc and others who generously donated prizes.

Doc- your advice and instruction was spot on (even down to the radar past Dolan Springs- I was behaving  )

I've been failing to find gold by myself since last winter; it was so much more fun failing to find gold in a group ;)

But seriously folks- got to experiment with more settings on the 5000 and have high expectations when I cross the right patch of ground.

Right now I came up for air in Kingman and, after a day or two of rest, will be back out to the Basin or on to the next patch.

Thanks to everyone who came out and made this such a fantastic memory! :)

Bunk's meteorite is the coolest I've seen.

Don't tell me all that gold was found out there? :o

I just got back from working a wash by Meadview that a nice couple told me had recently flooded.

Lots of trash and targets but wore out before gold.

I'm wore out for the moment but may head out yet again to search.

Fun area! :)
