slplsinbstn
Morning all you nugget heads I am a newbie to this nugget hunting stuff and would like to say hello. I am planning a trip to Vegas in April and wonder if it would be worth bringing along my metal detector. Are there any good stores, mines, or sites I can get to within an hour or two from Vegas ?? I am hoping to find at least a couple of 6 lb nuggets . Looking forward to chatting with all of you and learning a lot more about this hobby. slplsinbstn - That stands for Sleepless in Boston - Cause I am up all night thinking about finding that first nugget lol. Have a great day everyone and hope to meet some of you soon.
Admin nuggethunting Posted March 9, 2011 Admin Report Share Posted March 9, 2011 Hey Sleepless in Boston,Welcome to the forums. I'm not real familiar with Las Vegas area, but most guys head over to Gold Basin, which I believe is about an hour away from Vegas. Hope this helps,Rob Allison
frank c
Welcome, there are areas around Vegas others will chime in on them hopefully.Rob was dead on about Gold Basin its not very far and you will have the option for gold or meteorite hunting fun place to be, one of my favorites.. Lots of claims including GPAA if youre a member.ALSO if yer gonna be in Vegas the weekend of the 16-17th theres the big Gold Show happn at South Point casino lots to see and people to talk with about your passion and maybe get some tips about local areas around Vegas to hunt. Searchlight isn't far but I don't know the area land status, Just don't detect anywhere near the river its probably Nat'l Recreation area on Nv. side too like the AZ. side I'm familiar with and thats a big NONO like confiscation and arrest..Good luck an have fun Hapy Huntn. DOC
Gold Basin is your only option within 2 hours of Las Vegas. You can stop into the store I have and I will give you a hand drawn map and tell you how to get there.Bring your snake gaiters, because Gold Basin + April = Rattlers.Doc
slplsinbstn
Um, did someone say Rattlers ?Thanks guys for the replies. Sounds like the Gold Basin is the place to go. Doc, I will surely stop at your shop when we get out there on the 21st. Look forward to meeting you. Thanks slplsinbstn

It maybe true, that's not what I'm saying, it's just BullSh.. what harm could it do to throw in a catfishing pole and swing your detector around waiting for a bite????
