Tortuga
I hadn't seen this film before, it was on TV this evening. I thought it was a good western, right up there with Unforgiven. The part I liked was the gold mining scenes. Lots of good shots of hydraulic mining and monitors. Also showed some long sluices, rocker boxes and a few of the miners found some pretty big nuggets. Including a huge specimen about the size of a football. Definitely worth a watch if you haven't seen it before.
Admin nuggethunting Posted July 1, 2015 Admin Report Share Posted July 1, 2015 Hey Tortuga, It's a good movie if you like Western's, Gold Mining History and Clint Eastwood. Have you seen "Treasures of the Sierra Madre" yet?
way2cool
A thousand men, say, go searchin' for gold. After six months, one of them's lucky: one out of a thousand. His find represents not only his own labor, but that of nine hundred and ninety-nine others to boot. That's six thousand months, five hundred years, scramblin' over a mountain, goin' hungry and thirsty. An ounce of gold, mister, is worth what it isbecause of the human labor that went into the findin' and the gettin' of it. Howard.... Sums up gold prospecting. IMPDLN
Another Clint Eastwood movie, much earlier and somewhat a musical which he actually sings in is Paint Your Wagon. One of my personal favorites. Also it is about the rise and fall of a mining town, in a comical sort of musical way. I believe this was done before the spaghetti westerns. Have you seen "Treasures of the Sierra Madre" yet? I haven't seen that one Rob. I googled it and it's the movie where they say "we don't need no stinkin' badges". Sounds pretty cool. Admin nuggethunting Posted July 2, 2015 Admin Report Share Posted July 2, 2015 Hey Chris, You have to see "Treasure of Sierra Madre" if you haven't yet. Here is a good clip from the movie -
californiagold
I like the old gold rush movies and westerns. Even if they are acting, you get a reminder of how tough and respectful americans used to be. It was hard livin back then. Everytime I see some old diggins and see the back breakin work they did. I feel alot of respect for them. Just to find gold. Most of our youth would not ever work as hard as the old miners and cowboys. Different country now days. So I you break your body up working or playing now days , hats off to those, atleast keeping some of the old american spirit going today

Here is a good clip from the movie - That does look pretty good Rob. I could just see some oldtimers down in Greaterville arguing over a big nugget like that.I like the old gold rush movies and westerns. All a guy has to do to make a living wage is work at a Circle K and stand in the A/C all day. Don't have to go out there and break your back for a few dollars in gold anymore. Amazing what they had to do out of desperation back then.

shep
Tortuga, if you have the drop for the water pressure or a good size pump, I've got the monitor for you. $600. Would love to see this worked again and of course into a holding pond
