Is a SD22000D an worth my time (and money)

Recommended Posts

I might be able to pick up a Minelabs SD22000D for $500-600 bucks. Comes with the following:

1-Minelab 11" DD coil

1-Minelab 11" mono loop coil

1-9"x5" Elliptical coil

1-18" Super Goldsearch coil1-Automax pinpointer wand

3-Rechargeable 6 volt Gell Cell Batteries and carrying case

1-Home battery charging system

1-Travel car charging system to charge the batteries in the field

2-36" Coil extension cables

1-Owners manual

I realize it is a little older tech. I have read a few reviews and it seems to be very capable as far as a gold detecting. A little back-ground. I will be doing most of my detecting in the California gold fields around Mariposa and east of Bakersfield. Additionally, I would like to be able to coin shoot. Is this worth my time and money? Any help will be much appreciated!!

Just because it's a few years old doesn't mean it won't get the job done. My ancient green box SD2100 I scored a couple years back for only $400 still has my 4000 beat on weight and I only used it for a couple months to get used to it. Yeah the 4000 can pluck smaller nuggets at depth but for some strange reason my SD2100 only liked to pluck the larger nuggets. I wish my 4000 would do the same thing more consistently!

Thats an excellent price (almost to good to be true) and if you decide to not get it let me know because I'd buy it at that price in a heartbeat.

Dude , For that price (buyer beware) you should buy it. Try metal detecting for a while, and see if you are even going to like the hobby. If you dont like it then you could probably get over a thousand for it on e-bay...

Hey Satt,

I have to agree with the others. The price is a bit low for a SD2200. You can't find any of the old, Green SD2100's for even that price, unless they are beat up pretty bad. If it's a real deal, the price is great! However, I would make sure you can look and test the unit for power at a minimum before the purchase.

The SD series are great metal detectors. You can add a lot of aftermarket parts to increase performance, even modifications are available.

Hope this helps,

Rob Allison

OK, well so much for the "good deal". I called post, a guys answers. I ask about the MD and he was....both confused and a bit upset. Turns out his wife created the post trying to get rid of his "obsession". Oh well. Guess it was like you guys said....to good to be true.

Hey Satt,

Not sure what your budget is at this time, but I do have a few used Minelab units in great shape, but are a bit more expensive than the SD.

Right now I have a like new, GPX4000 for $3,000 and a like new GPX4500 for $3600. Both of these units were units purchased through me, but the customers have upgraded to GPX5000's.

I also might have a used GP3500 coming in soon.

Talk with you later,

Rob Allison

Paratrooper,

I saw this one on ebay. I actaully added it to me watch list. With 5 days left I doubt it will stay in my price range.

What do you guys thing of the Eureka Gold? How does it compare to the xterra 705? I see one on ebay for $700 OBO. Only has 20 hours left. Might be able to get it at a little lower price.

Rob, I really appreciate the help. Nothing personal. Just trying to get the best deal I can. I was actually going to call you today on the 705 gold when I found this Eureka.

Why would you shoulder the risk of buying a used detector from e-bay (or anywhere) when you can get a new xterra-705 for about the same money...remember the warrenty on used minelabs is ZERO...it does not transfer...you could also buy a Tesoro lobo st for about the same...or a fisher gb...

saving money is fine as long as you get good value...

Doc wrote an excellent post about this a few months ago...it should be required reading in this nugget hunting class...

So Rob, Fedex showed up with the 705 today, then they left with it because noone was here to accept it  So I have to wait until tomorrow for the re-delivery. :spank: Bad delivery guy, the house was empty for all of an hour. The same hour my wife was out of the house Fedex shows up. Oh well, guess I can wait one more day.

  • 2 weeks later...

I've heard that Minelab no longer repairs these older units.

I would be interested in one in non-working condition if really cheap.

I can't justify they expense of buying a working one but am an electronics geek

that can fix just about anything. These however would be a real challenge as I

think they are painted with white epoxy...

Hey Satt,

Missed this post ... I'm sure you have the detector now. I place full insurance on all metal detectors being shipped to make sure if something would happen it would be covered in full. All detectors have a signature confirmation, so someone must be at that residence and sign for the package.

Keep us updated on what you think about the 705. It's a hot detector for gold nuggets, coin, relics and even beach hunters now.

Talk with you later,

Hey guys, been away for some time now. I had septoplasti surgery the other day. Been taking it easy.

Rob, I received the 705 in perfect order. I've only had a little time to put it to good use. I am very happy so far. I will post a thread on the finds. Pretty much all playgrounds so far.

I did join the CoarseGold prospector club. Hoping to make it out to one of there claims after I heal.

Frank, septoplasty is a correction for a deviated septum in the nose. I have had difficulties breathing through the right side of my nose for years. I finally got someone to actually listen to what I was saying and the docs sent me to a specialist. I'm supposed to be down for another week or so.

David, Have you hunted in that area at all? Where are you located? I'd be interested in checking it out. I'll have to get back to you on it.
