Hey Bob, Ya, she was a deep one. That is one reason I find it hard to part with the GPZ 7000. If the area has minimal trash and is a known gold nugget area, the GPZ 7000 is my choice. It's ability to shoot down deep, but still maintain good sensitivity to small gold is amazing. I love the GPX 6000 also, lightweight and super easy to use, but it's NO GPZ 7000 in my opinion if you can deal with the weight. Rob

Hey Chuck, Ya, exciting to hear about the Garrett Axiom. I think it's going to sell well in the mid-line PI area for $4k. I don't personally believe it will perform like a GPX 6000 or higher, but a very good PI gold hunter that has a lot of nice features. Here are some details on the Military Discount that Garrett and the Dealers are offering. There was some confusion on another forum where someone stated Garrett was only offering 10%, but it's actually 15% Military discount - You also mentioned if I will be offering training on this unit. I will, but it will be a bit later, as the unit is so new, I haven't had any real time on the unit. Hey Guys, It's great to see that Garrett is still in the PI game. I think this new Garrett Axiom will have it's place for sure when it comes to gold nugget detecting. I was hoping it would be in the $2500-3000 range which would fill that gap where the Minelab GPX 4500 was at $2499 before Minelab discontinued it. I'm not a field tester for Garrett, just have my hands in too many pies to try to do another task. I will leave the field testing up to the guys that have all the time to really prove them out. We will have a batch of them soon, looks like the MAP price will be around $3995.00. We will also be offering the Garrett 10% Military discount on this unit for active or retired US Military. Hey Col, Honestly I have found some pyrite ore that has given the PI some fits, but nothing like a VLF would. A VLF will scream on most, a PI might just be more of a moan type signal, just depends on how much metal is really left. Rob

Hey Guys/Gals, Here in the Southwest, it's now hot (over 100+ degrees) and higher humidity due to the Summer Monsoon storms. That being said, many are still out roaming the goldfields during the early morning hours in hopes for a few gold nuggets. A friend and I are still out and about, hunting in the morning hours until the heat/humidity or the storms run us out. Spending most of the time in the gully bottoms, the bedrock can get as high as 140-150 degrees making it difficult to stay on the ground too long. This has been a weird year, we have yet to see a single Rattlesnake to date. I have seen just about everything else, lizards, small rodents, bugs and other snakes, but no Rattlesnakes to boot. I'm not sure if it's the drought or what, but normally my friend and I would run across dozens of Rattlesnakes by this time. I'm not complaining, just seems weird this year, but maybe we just have been lucky to miss them. On another note, I stumbled across this nice gold nugget a few weekends ago. We were metal detecting with the Minelab GPZ 7000's in a new area and I got this faint signal right in the center of the wash bottom. I almost didn't dig it, as I haven't found a single nugget prior to this targets, so normally I'm not going to dig deep targets right out in the center of any gulch unless I have a reason to believe there is gold. I guess I have to be happy about this one, it was well over a foot deep on bedrock. The nugget was just over 1/4 ounce in weight, nothing huge, but sure was a surprise to say the least! The nugget lead us into a new area that has potential and paid for gas (almost $6/gallon). A few other smaller gold nuggets were also found not shown. Keep in mind, hunting this time of year, make sure you hydrate well, wear light clothing, pack enough liquids, wear sunscreen, gloves, hat and snake gaitors. These are just some recommendations for all the years of searching the desert regions during the Summer. I also recommend also hunting with a friend if possible and carrying 2-way radios so you can communicate back in forth and tell your buddy when you find that big gold nugget! Hey Bob, Funny you mention "Little Known Gold area," as more than 1/2 of all my gold locations are just that, "Little known and undocumented." There wasn't much really written on gold nugget locations, but more so gold locations that produced larger amounts of fine and flake gold or mines that produced payable quantities of gold in the lode.

Hey Bob, Funny you mentioned that, I just met with a owner of some property today and we talked about a patch that you and "Big Foot" worked back during the VLF and early PI days. That being said, some people believe that "Big Foot" was named for using the old bigfoot searchcoil, but others have stated he had one very small foot and a normal foot, so he was dubbed "Bigfoot." I remember running into him in Arizona and around Winnemucca, NV. Rob

Hey Bob and All, Great point Bob made about the Roadside patches. I have a story that involves my Cousin and I dating back to the late 90's. We were taking a casual exploration drive during the early Summer months looking for new ground for the upcoming Winter season. We drove several rough, winding dirt roads for miles looking for potential washes and places to jump out and swing for 15-30 minutes spot checking. We hit several places prior to finding a small, narrow gully that we could see bedrock in. The road we were driving along was right along the bank of the small wash, so we could see hundreds of yards of the narrow gully as we slowly drove down the road. After driving about a hundred yards of above the bedrock wash, we thought it might be smart to jump out with our SD2000's/2100's and give it a quick whirl. I ended up walking up creek, while my cousin went down. It wasn't more than about 15 minutes when my cousin yelled out he had his first gold nuggets, from a new location! We both were super excited, as this area had no mention in any of the books about gold, nor any mines or prospects within miles. It was super hot, but since we started finding small gold nuggets, it was hard to stop. We worked for several hours and gold just thinned out and it was getting super hot, probably 120+ in the narrow, bedrock wash. After many trips back to this narrow, no named bedrock wash, we ended up taking somewhere between 500-600 gold nuggets ranging from a 1-2 grains up to like 1/4 ounce. I have returned over the years after large Monsoon rains, I'm sure my Cousin and friends have to, so I'm sure another 50-100 nuggets have been found to add to the 500-600 we found together. I always tell myself and others, if something catches your attention, you should give it 15-30 minutes just to get it off your mind. All those places you have drove by over the years and told yourself "I should hunt this, or this looks good," you better check them out at some point. Just honestly imagine all the gold we are walking and driving by going to the major, known gold locations most hunt.
