Steve Herschbach
I am arriving in Vegas the evening of the 6th to attend training sessions on the 7th and 8th, then the conference on the 10th and 11th. The 9th is pretty much a free day. Is there any day trip detecting worth a darn around Vegas? Not sure I want to lug the GPX down and back but a 705 will easily fit in my carry-on.Steve Herschbach
Admin nuggethunting Posted August 19, 2010 Admin Report Share Posted August 19, 2010 Hey Steve, My wife and I will be arriving on the 9th and staying through the 12th. We have already attended the Minelab training here in Arizona. We are staying at the Bellagio, so hopefully we will see you around. There are areas within an hour or so of Vegas, but I think I'm going to spend more time around the strip. You might want to contact Doc or even Kevin H. to see if anyone has any plans on detecting in the nearby area. See you there,Rob Allison

frank c
Steve, you'll be braving triple digits in the afternoon hours so early morn just before sunup for however long you can take it bring PLENTY of water.Just over an hours drive from around downtown Vegas to the southwest is Gold Basin area over the Hoover dam into Arizona. Its a favorite area of many from Vegas. You'll have gold and meteorites to find. Look at a map and follow RT. 93 out of Vegas thru Bolder City across the dam and on to the Dolan Springs/ Meadview turnoff thats called Pierce ferry road follow that thru Dolan Spgs when you get to seeing a valley in front of you and another mountain way ahead ( thats Meadview area ) At the base of the valley before the mountain 3 roads intersect with Pierce ferry 2 on the right and 1 on the left The left hand turn is Gregs Hideout Rd. Take that left and follow it graded dirt road from there on doglegs to the left thru a big wash (Walapai wash on the maps) then doglegs right over a steel cattle guard stay on it lots of BLM land to hunt The Colorado river is still further ahead on Gregs Hideout rd if you take it till it dead ends. Watch for the Demarcation line its a large sign saying "Lake Mead Nat. Recreation area" and is fenced also. Don't go past there with your detector No Hunting Area. I think you'll enjoy the scenery spending a day at the "Basin"Hapy Huntn Frank C.

DOC
Come on Steve, it will only be about 117 in the desert. Even the snakes don't come out this time of year. I'd be happy to take you out there. But an hour from downtown Vegas? No way, 2 hours. The last hour you only go 20 miles or so.I go a different way than described, but it is much more interestingDoc
frank c
Doc, how do you go in the back way thru Temple Bar Rd. ???
DOC
No I hate Temple Bar road that is way too long a drive. I couldn't explain how I go, it was a way that Hoss Blackman showed me back when he was alive. You go through White Hills and around the back side of Senator Mountain.Doc
DOC
Steve are we on for the 9th? I'd be happy to take you out for a day. I like to leave around 5 am in the morning. Where are you staying?Doc
Steve Herschbach
Hi Doc,If you are serious, sure, let's go! Earlier the better. I am staying at Bill's Gamblin' Casino across from the Bellagio. The Bellagio was a bit to rich for my blood by the time I got around to checking prices. Thanks, and look forward to seeing you. We can quit when it gets too hot and make it back in time for the meet and greet. I'm buying the gas!
Admin nuggethunting Posted August 23, 2010 Admin Report Share Posted August 23, 2010 Hey Guys, If my Wife and I were coming up one day earlier I would join you. We are driving up on the 9th (Thursday) and should be there hopefully by about noon. Steve - We were going to stay in that same Casino, but we decided to take the plunge and stay at the Bellagio for three nights. Just means I have to get back out and find some more nuggets to cover the expenses. If you get some time, we should hook up and have dinner at one of the Casino's or a Steakhouse. Doc - Don't forget about our hot date on the 10th! Take care,Rob Allison

I love Reno...no more than 70 miles to any kind of fun I could ever want. I hope you enjoy the change from Alaska.best wishes fred
Steve Herschbach
Hi Fred,Alaska is great in the summer but I am tired of spending half of every year waiting for summer to come. Seems like any direction I drive from Reno I can go prospecting. Maybe we will bump into each other sometime.Sure thing on dinner, Rob!Steve Herschbach
Steve Herschbach
Got the big tour of Gold Basin. We detected a bit, no gold but I found a small meteorite, my first. Admin nuggethunting Posted September 13, 2010 Admin Report Share Posted September 13, 2010 Hey Steve, It was great seeing you and all the other dealers that attended. I think Minelab has made a very good change and more and more things in the near future will continue to get better. The Minelab staff is top notch in my opinion. Yes, the dinner was really nice and gave Doc, You and I an opportunity to sit down and chat with the Minelab Engineers from Minelab and talk about the detectors, technology and other ideas. I'm back home now. Walked away from the Roulette table with over a grand last night! Talk with you later,Rob Allison
DOC
My Pleasure taking you to Gold Basin for the 25 cent tour.At least you got to see how us poor pea picking prospectors do it. Of course most of the gold we find at gold basin isn't even the size of a pea.Take care Steve!Doc
