  1. Hello All, Sunday I got out for a few hours to poke around where some areas got washed out pretty good. A few trash targets and 5 gold nuggets for a few hours of hunting. Playing around with the Coiltek 14x9 Blitz Mono Searchcoil again on the Minelab GPX 5000 metal detector. It's out there ..... Rob Allison
  2. Hey Bob, I heard the Weaver area got hit hard. Would love to see Antelope or Weaver to run again so I could drop a dredge in them. I did manage to score some smaller pieces today, thanks to the Monsoon Storms exposing some new sections of bedrock. Rob Allison
  3. Hey Guys, I would have thought the same ..... wish I could go over there, heard some very interesting stories about big gold. AzNuggetBob - This couple has a lot of family over there that are actually working the goldfields with primitive methods. Many areas have been dug down to bedrock, mounts of paydirt piled up, so the detectors might do well. They said there will be in contact with me and might need more GPX 5000's in the near future!
  4. Hello All, A few weekends ago Roy and his wife from Tucson, Arizona came down to get instructions on the GPX 5000. Roy and his wife purchased a bundle of GPX 5000's and a bunch of searchcoils to take with them to Mongolia to hunt for gold nuggets. Sounds like they might be one of the largest groups with 5000's over there and I'm hoping they score big time! Wishing you both the best of luck and hopefully you can get all those GPX 5000's over some Mongolia gold quickly. Thanks once again for allowing Rob's Detector Sales the opportunity to supply you and your family. Rob Allison
  5. Hey Nuggetslayer, Great find and thanks for sharing it with us. Wishing you many more! Rob Allison
  6. Hey Guys, Looking forward to going back. Figure there was one decent nugget and minimal trash, I would guess there are more hiding in the nearby area. The wash was pretty deep, so I know if there are any nuggets on bedrock I wouldn't reach them due to the depth and overgrown vegitation. I will keep you all updated when I return, hopefully sooner than later! Rob Allison
  7. Hey Border Boy, Great looking nuggets. Looks like you're using the "Minelab Commander 8-inch Round," which is a great coil. Hope you score more at that location. Rob Allison
  8. Hello All, A few weekends ago I was able to spend a few hours exploring some new country. This areas was outside the known gold districts, but close enough where the regional geology was very similar. Well towards the end of the hunt, I just happened to cross over a small ridge and looked down and noticed some old workings. Low and behold it was some hand-stacking (placer workings) in a small, overgrown wash. I managed to find a few open areas to detect and found one nugget around 2.5 Dwt's. Not hardly any trash, but very little exposed bedrock and very thick in spots. No questions there are more, but the wash might need to be trimmed up and dug down to bedrock to see what might be hiding here. These spots are fun to find, as there as never been a detector on site and the potential can be very good. I'm looking forward to working this wash, but might wait until it cools down a bit. I doubt anyone will find this spot. Here are a few pictures - Thanks for viewing. Rob Allison
  9. Hey Guys, Jim had a good friend Dan Taylor helping him out. Dan is now a member of this forum, so hopefully he can post more in the future. Jim is recovering very well from what the Doctor mentioned. Dan also mentioned Jim wants to get back to Randsburg, guessing detecting or scouting around the hills. Just another quick update. Rob Allison
  10. Hey Tom, Glad you were able to get out. The Monsoon's generate some of the worst EMI. I experienced it the last couple of weekends, but was able to score a few (havent posted them yet) before the noise got too crazy. This time of the year you have to stay hydrated. A customer that purchased a GPX 5000 recently was from back east and hunted all day within drinking much. He said he almost ended up in the Hospital before he headed back to TN. It took him several days to recover. Take care, Rob Allison
  11. Hello All, Here is an interesting article about Rare Earths being discarded in the early days, now potentially more valuable than the gold mined originally. http://news.yahoo.com/gold-rush-era-discards-could-fuel-cellphones-tvs-133752521.html There is also a lot of talk about valuable Rare Earths in Black Sands. Rob Allison
  12. Hey Tom, What many don't know about the discrimination on the GPX 5000 is it actually work best in the "Fixed" mode over the "Tracking." Also, the level of discrimination is just that, if you have it set on 1 or 2 for example, the discrimination is very conservative and will normally only really "Blank out" on larger targets like nails, horseshoes and larger iron type targets. Smaller iron targets sounds normal until you're right on top of them. As you increase the level it seems like you get better discrimation on true iron targets, but you also have the chance to "blank out" specimen type gold (gold in ironstone or quartz). I've had my best discrmination success with nuggets using a good VLF detector with an iron meter. Hope this helps a bit, Rob Allison
  13. Hello All, I have a friend that is looking for any information, email or phone for Fred Brust. I used to purchased Fisher products back in the day from Fred and his wife. Any help would be appreciated so I can pass it on. Thanks! Rob Allison

  15. Hey Bill, Great talking with you on the phone. Jim really praised you and couldn't think you enough allowing him to post on your forums. We all know Jim Straight is a wealth of knowledge, a true prospector and retired Geologist. Over the years Jim has been one of the well-known, probably best all around contributors to the prospecting Magazines such as ICMJ, GPAA, Western & Eastern Treasure, Lost Treasure and more. I found his articles in the ICMJ as some of the best on prospecting and geology, not sure why he isn't writting for them anymore. If you can learn to really read and understand what Jim is telling you, it can be very rewarding. Jim has a way of almost writting or hiding a treasure map in his words, pay close attention to what he is really telling you! I will say it again, like I have a million times, Jim Straight is one of my mentors. A true american prospector, geologist and teacher at heart! We have been long-time friends for many decades. Without his books, articles and all-around willingness to help others be successful, I wouldn't probably be doing what I'm doing now. P.S. Bill I still remember one of our first trips to Quartzsite range. I had that fairly new 2000 GMC 4x4 with stock tires and we blew one on the way in and then another I believe later. We both were thinking we might not get out, but rather might be walking if we didn't tread lightly. Some good old times ..... Rob Allison
  16. Hey Paul, I'm not even sure I know the GPS, just where it physically is. Funny, the last time I returned to this spot the vegitation grew up pretty good and the spot looked really different. I almost thought it was the wrong spot, but after about 30 minutes of roaming around I seen a few things I remembered.
  17. Hello All, Here is an update from Coiltek Manufacturing in Australia on all Coiltek Searchcoils. The new Coiltek 14x9 Blitz Mono has been a huge hit, especially on the newer GPX series detectors. The coil is the lightest 14x9 elliptical mono built. Coiltek is on the move making more searchcoil for other Minelab detectors. The new 6-inch Round will be available for the Minelab Eureka Gold very soon. This has always been a hit for older GT, American Goldstriker and XT series VLF Minelab detectors. Just an update, Rob Allison
  18. Hello All, Today Jim Straight and I talked for a good hour, maybe two on the phone. We talked about our friendship since the early 90's up to recent events like the forums and gold price today. Jim was so excited to talk and in very high spirits. He wanted to let everyone know he can't get on the computer or access any forums at this time as he is in a wheel chair and hurting. He said he is getting a lot of letters and responding back to them. Jim loves to write, something he has been an expert at for decades. He said he was thankful for having forums like Bill Southern's and mine to post on. I know he really misses getting on the forums and reading what we have to say. He also wanted to let me know again that both Bill Southern and my picture were on his piano. He also wanted me to tell AZNuggetBob he thought he was a wealth of information and felt he knew more than most Geologist on Epithermal deposits! That being said, Jim did mention he didn't know if he would ever walk again. However, he said that would never stop him, but wanted to let everyone know he will think positive and that anyone can overcome anything if they think that way. Jim has been a long time mentor to many, including myself. He is a living icon in the prospecting, metal detecting and mining field. I told Jim I would post this and he encouraged it. Please place Jim Straight in your prayers. He could use some speedy recovery! Rob Allison
  19. Hey Guys, Thanks for the comments. We do live in a great nation, but it's much different than the "good old days." Ralph, I could be around this Sunday. Shoot me over a text. Rob Allison
  20. Hello IDdesertman, Great looking specimen. Just guessing, but guys using discrimination in trashy areas could easily miss a piece like that. Discrimination can be a saint in some areas, but then again if the nature of the gold is specimen type, gold in matrix, you could walk away from some beauties like that one. Thanks for sharing. Wishing you a Happy 4th of July and much more gold to come. Rob Allison
  21. Hello All, Just wanted to wish you all a Happy Independence Day (4th of July).
  22. Hey Guys, Jim Straight called me a few days ago. He is doing well, but still in a wheel chair. He told me my picture was still on his Piano, which is a big honor in my eyes. Jim Straight has not only been one of my mentors, but also a special friend for a long time. Just an update, Rob Allison
  23. Hey Chris, Sounds like fun. I was a member of the WSPA years ago, but don't have enough time to dedicate to any one club. That being said, I have donated some gifts to the club that Ray Mills will receive. Hope you all have fun and turn up some new gold. Rob Allison
  24. Hey Guys, Thanks for all the comments. Just shows they are still out there, but still far and few inbetween. Rob Allison
  25. Hello Guys, I'm pretty speechless after hearing about the lose of 19 Hot Shots and all the damage to the homes and business in the town of Yarnell. I was out that way last weekend, here is a shot from Saturday evening when the fire just started getting out of control. God Bless all the lost Hot Shots and their family & friends. Rob Allison
