  1. Hey Steve, Great to see the collection of nuggets your Brother found. The SDC 2300 will really serve it's purpose for a specific type of nuggetshooting. I'm looking forward to using it as my "pack in and prospect" detector. If I find a really good spot, I can always at some point bring in the big gun, GPX 5000 to see what I might have missed at depth. Not much water here in Arizona, so the waterproof feature hasn't been used for me. That being said, I have sold several to guys in California and Alaska that have big plans for it underwater and sniping.
  2. Hey Guys, Reno Chris - I agree with you. I probably ran around 10 hours with several hours of breaks in between where I shut down the detector. I think 8 hours on a fresh set of C rechargeable's is about right. Largo - I didn't time the recharge time, but my guess is about 3-4 hours. I could be wrong, I will try to get a better idea on the next recharge and post it here.
  3. Hey Hobby, The regulators on the older GP series were onboard. I would have to ask the Minelab Engineers if it's now in the GPX batteries or onboard like before. The stock batteries are bullet-proof, but many, like myself, hate the harness and power cord hanging off. I love the Goldscreamer Power Pack for the GPX series though. It's a bit pricey, but well worth every penny in my opinion.
  4. Summer Monsoons Bring out More Rattlesnakes Hello All, this weekend I done some metal detecting for gold nuggets and ran into these two Arizona Rattlers throughout the day. This is the time when you will see more of them due to the cooler weather (Monsoons). I spotted several on the road, just didn't get any video or pictures of them. Check out the video below also. Be alert and know your surroundings when hiking and exploring out there. We highly recommend the use of snake gaitors or snake chaps for a added layer of protection. 6. Hey Hobby, All the guys information prior is correct. The GPX batteries when they are new are able to get 14-16 hours out of them. I have hunted an entire weekend on a new stock GPX battery. As you charge them and they age, the life will drop some. If you're getting 8 hours out of any older battery, say a few years old, then it's ok.
  7. Hey Guys, It's a typical monoloop coil, so the outer edges are very sensitive, but for deep stuff the middle will be where it's heard first. Scored 4 more small ones poking around some old patches this weekend. Still trying to get a better idea how many hours I can get out of the rechargeable C batteries that come with the unit. Anyone push them to the max yet? I hunted all day, probably 8-10 hours and noticed when I placed the C batteries back in the charger they were pretty much dead.
  8. Hey Tom, Nope, no trash in the hole. Just goes to show, you better dig everything when in doubt.
  9. Hey Guys, Thanks for the comments. Yes, the GPX detectors really make those little nuggets sound much larger. I'm impressed with the stock 11-inch coil, even though I do like some of the aftermarket larger coils for certain spots.
  10. Hey Mike, I believe a friend of mine went to that same operation last year for a week. He mentioned it was right outside of Nome and sounds like the same spot. He said he rounded up a few ounces of gold working the old piles and a recent scrap along the creek. You might do well there with the Minelab. Keep us updated if you would. Might be a great place for some of us to escape next year in maybe a group setting.
  11. Hey Tom, Sounds like you had a great trip. The Lynx Creek area hold so much history when it comes to gold mining. The amount of iron rubbish makes it difficult to hunt with a metal detector, but I have seen some beautiful nugget found there over the years. I even seen a guy pan a 8 Dwt piece many years back as we were BS along the creek with him. He about threw the gold pan in the air when he seen it gleam through the black sands. Great to ran into Carlos. He's a great guy really wanting to learn about metal detecting for gold. He purchased several detectors, a Tesoro and the Gold Bug you mentioned. Hope you guys can get together. Talk with you later,
  12. Hey Guys, I agree with what everyone above has stated. That being said, over the years many have preached they only dig "certain, good sounding targets." When you become an expert, whatever that classification might be, then you might be able to get a better idea. However, some of my best and biggest nuggets and specimens have been non-typical signal responses, whether it's a double or triple hit, broken signals or weird wobbles. The minute you stop digging these targets cause someone said it's always trash is the moment you're potentially walking away from good nuggets. Just my experience from nuggethunting the Southwestern US, Mexico and Alaska for the last 20 years. You leave them, then you allow someone else to tell the story!!
  13. Hey Mike, Anvil Creek has produced some massive gold nuggets over the years. Not sure where their operation is on Anvil, but it's a good nugget area. I heard they let some locals come out and hunt for a fee and some have done well. My guess is there might be some tailings, but I think they do some moving of dirt, so check anywhere that might be close to bedrock.
  14. Hello All, Within a few minutes of the first gold nugget, I scored this nice 1.5 Dwt piece down a bit deeper. I'm really liking the new Minelab SDC 2300 metal detector.
  15. Hello All, Within just a few minutes of discovering the first, small gold nugget with the Minelab SDC 2300 metal detector, I popped out this nice 1.5 Dwt piece down a bit deeper. Thought for sure it was going to be trash, but ended up being a nice nugget. Excited to use this new detector, so will post more in the near future.
  16. Hey Azblackbird, For years I used a Dillon Precision Reloading Scale that weighed up to like 500 grains. I think I had a few nuggets back then that might have tilted the scale, but for the most part, the majority of them were 50 grains and under. Very sensitive scales for the little nuggets.
  17. Hello All, Here is the first gold nugget I found using the new, Minelab SDC 2300 Metal Detector. The nugget was around 1 grain in size.
  18. Hello All, Here is the first gold nugget I found with the SDC 2300. I will post some more video's soon.
  19. Hello All, Well I was able to get out for a few hours this morning and try out the new SDC 2300 Metal Detector. I will post more, but within 15 minutes of the hunt I scored this small, 1 grain nugget about an inch down. I pushed the piece around for a few minutes thinking it was a small piece of wire. Low and behold my first piece of gold with the new SDC 2300. Was really amazed on the sensitive to small gold in just the default (mode 2) and mode 3 Sensitive. Looking forward to trying this detector on some old patches that were loaded with smaller gold. Questions or for more information on this new Minelab SDC 2300, contact me by phone or email. Thanks!
  20. Hey 1dredger, I think it's just simple as you have 20 Dwt to a Troy Ounce. You know 5 Dwt's is 1/4 ounce, 10 is 1/2 ounce, 15 is 3/4 ounce and such.
  21. Hello All, Here is a short video I recent filmed working a small gully with the Minelab GPX 5000. Found a small nugget at a pretty good depth with the stock Minelab Commander 11-inch Round Mono.

  23. Hey Guys, Thanks for the comments. AJ - Haha .... I've always weighted in Dwt's, so I hate to change. Grams always seems like so much more. I know there is more gold, maybe some bigger, but the ratio of trash to gold is very high (20-30 pieces of trash per nugget if you're lucky).
