Mrs Lucky has had her mind set to find a 1/2 oz nugget for a year now. I kept reminding her to start with a 1/4 oz'er first and work her way up the ladder of success. Robin, has found many nuggets less than 4 dwt's, but couldn't get over the hump. Well, her hardwork paid off. She was working a little dink patch trying to get the morning skunk off her back. I worked a big circle around her and pulled a nice 2 dwt'er and was working my way backup to her. That's when I heard her yell above me, Oh My God! Oh My God, it's big! I yelled back how big 1/4 oz, bigger she yelled back. 1/2 oz, it's huge she said! Well I had to see for my self, I hike up the hill and boy was it a nice nugget, but I was guessing 15/16 dwt's, NuggetSlayer, was guessing around 17 dwt's. We had some guest detectorist to share the hunt with us...Montana and his Wife Betsy pulled up. Bob said, what's all the yelling about? Robin, proudly showed the freshly dug nugget to Bob & Betsy. Bob, was on the money a little over 1 oz was his guess. Robin, sure skipped a few rungs of the ladder and is proud to be a member of the 1 oz club! I don't have all the pictures of everyone's poke, but it's impressive! El Dorado or Montana, but someone will post the pictures of the great time we all had. Thanks Mark & Mike your great camp host! The hunt continues and may your lucky day come soon...Until our next hunt! After a little bath the nugget hit the scale at 21.4 dwt's.

To all thanks, Robin and I just returned from and overnight stay. It's nearly as hot up in the hills this weekend as it is down in the valley. Tough going for sure! DigDeep, I still have that giant hat of your waiting for your next trip up here or I down your way late Fall. Until cooler days!

This was a trip to remember for sure. We all got gold, but the place we were so graciously invited was detectorist heaven! Mrs. El Dorado (Dee) even got a 4 pieces with her brand new Gold Bug 2 and it was the first time she has ever even used a detector. Robin certainly trumped us all with that grand 1 oz whopper Mark and Mike, our hosts were so generous to share this amazing spot with all of us... I cannot thank them enough! Great gold, great friends, awsome food, loads of fun and cold beer.... perfect 4 days! Bob and Betsy... so glad to finally met the both of you! Dee also found two very old and rare bottles. One Whiskey bottle from N.Y circa 1865-75 and one stomach bitters bottle circa 1860..... pictures to follow of the bitters bottle!

Some of the gold......(missing Dee's)

I can't add much to the gold pics, but here's one for all the desert rats out there. How's this for the end of June? Mike and I used the goldbugs a little every day, and there were heaps of crumbs for us to play with and the mineralization was almost nothing on the bare bedrock we were using them on so you could pick out the tiniest nuggets easily . I hardly ever had to ground balance and you could crank up the sensitivity.

Lucky. After passing places like that we spent the night in Beatty Nevada. Man, the western US is an incredible chunk of real estate. We dropped a whopping 13 bucks at the casino. There went all my Gold Bug poke. We drove around the west side of Tahoe and then secondary back roads down to Mono lake Where we started our huge loop through the gold country 7 days before. 2400 miles on the truck and it never saw anything flat except a few places in Nevada . We did as many backroads as we could find on the map that looked interesting. Getting lost was pretty easy on the west side of the Sierras with the amazing network of roads to all the old mining camps, but it didn't matter at all, it was just part of the fun and it was a great lesson in the history of the gold camps that can't be comprehended until you see it all and get to the towns that haven't been turned into gift shops. The old homes with the cobblestone foundations and fences made from the placer tailings are great . Cement and wire was scarce but the cobbles were everywhere. We enjoyed California very much and thanks for the pointy fingers out at the patches.-----Bob
