Hey Garikfox, Everything but the specimen in the top left is solid gold. The nuggets are all dirty, right out of the ground. The specimen is mostly quartz and some gold on the left side of it. The Cowboy Boot nugget is solid gold also. It was an incredible day digging them for sure!

Hey Guys, I was going through some old pictures looking for something and stumbled onto a picture that I posted years ago, when a customer said, "Rob, you found a Cowboy Boot Nugget." Can you see what nugget this might be in the picture? These nuggets were all found in one day back with the GPX 4500 and Coiltek 14x9" Elliptical Mono Searchcoil. Hope you enjoyed.

Hey Boulder Dash, Great story and sorry to hear about the loss of a good prospecting friend. Over the years, I lost several myself and find myself prospecting those areas from time to time and thinking about them and what they taught me. I always tell people to cherish the times they get to spend together prospecting, as you never know if there will be another day or even a chance to say something good to them. Hey Guys, I now have one of those Minelab GP 3000's, maybe it has some magic to it. I will probably end up selling it here soon when someone wants a good, older Minelab PI for a good price. My magic came with the GP Extreme ..... maybe it was just the big change in technology from the older SD to the GP series.

Hey Garik, Over the years I have had many friends bring their dogs with them, small and large. However, like BrownNugget mentioned, they all at some point got cactus all over them. You also have to worry about Rattlesnakes, as Dogs are curious and will try to smell or even attack them. I know a few guys that lost their dogs to Rattlesnake bits out in the desert. You have a beautiful dog there, would hate for anything to happen to him. Same to you Brown Nugget, good looking Lab.

Hey Guys, I have been selling White's products for some time now, most are not listed on my site due to time. That being said, I had the opportunity some time back to start to carry White's products, so I jumped on it. The main reason was to be able to sell all major brands, but secondly, the results and field tests of the new White's Goldmaster 24K and some rumors of the new TDI. A few guys I trust on field reports have been using the Gold Master 24K for some time now and claim it's getting more depth than any other VLF on the market in it's class, including the Gold Monster 1000. It also seems to be more sensitive per their reports and findings. I have been testing this unit for some time, but haven't posted any Youtube videos or reports myself yet. What I can say honestly right now is that it does seem to have better sensitivity on specimens in my opinion vs. the Gold Monster and other VLF's I have used to date and it does have a bit more punch. I haven't decided yet on what VLF detector I'm going to run with, but I'm really impressed with what White's did with this new 24K unit. Anyone else using or testing the new White's Goldmaster 24K gold detector? Would love to hear what you have to say.

Hey Garikfox, A piece like this would be considered a specimen and would in my opinion be more valuable as it. That being said, some will crush up the rock and pan out the gold. This is pretty much what the old-timers would do on pieces like this and free milling gold ore. Today the market for buying/selling gold is different, there are collectors that really value these type of pieces. However, back in the late 1800's or early 1900's I believe it was about getting the gold, there wasn't any collectors or interest in "specimen value."

Hey Fred, Yes, I think this goes for all picks that have a large pick point on one end. I'm not sure if you remember, but Walco had a pick with a huge pick point, probably 2 times the normal size. A friend and I were hiking up this steep hillside years ago and he slipped off a rock and fell onto the pick point. I thought for sure he was dead, as he yelled out a loud scream and I seen him quickly grab his side. The pick tip just missed from going right into him, but it did tear off about 1/16th of an inch of flesh about 3 inches long. If it was any closer, it would have punctured into him, not telling what would of happen. We were at least an hour away from the vehicle, so this could have been bad, real Bad! I recommend if possible on these type of picks to be careful when climbing. What would be nice is some type of hard plastic or something that could cover the sharp pick end while hiking and it could be removed when you need to use the pick. Just a thought, P.S. Yes, Bunk need to build me about 20 more of each .....

Hey Adam, Believe it or not, customers have a wide range of what they want when it comes to prospecting picks. Myself I like just one magnet and a good lightweight pick around 20-24 inches in length. However, some really like a ton of magnets on their picks, while others don't want any as they believe some specimens that contain iron and gold could be picked up and discarded. Over the years of selling a bunch of different picks brands, some of the most popular where the Walco and Hodan brands. I sold hundreds of both brands, the Hodan were very lightweight, while the Walco picks were moderate weight, but built almost construable. The Apex brand is one of only a few brands that are still in business. They make a bunch of different sizes, magnet choices and they can even customize a pick if needed. They are a bit pricey, but they back the picks really well. I think there is a huge market for Bunk to sell a bunch more picks, but the production has been really slow.

Hey Guys, Way2cool - They never gave an explanation on why there is a price increase just on these two units. If I hear something I will post about it. Roger - The Gold Monster 1000 metal detector is actually one of the best VLF gold detectors on the market today. It's priced right at $799.00 (currently) and comes with two searchcoils, the 5" round and the 8x5" Elliptical. The Gold Monster is very simple to use, no question the easiest turn on and go gold detectors on the market today. Minelab started to sell some items like control boxes to the public, but that kind of stopped. It does show the Gold Monster control box as an accessory, saying you can buy this only if something would happen to the one you have. The are not fragile, I have had one since they came out and it's bounced around on my quad, even off it one time, so I know they are durable like all other Minelab detectors. Hope this helps a bit,

Hey Garik, Over the years there has been a lot of debate on coils and aftermarket coils. You bring up a good point, the "coils don't say Minelab on them." Over the years some believed the Minelab coils, such as the Commanders were fine tuned better than aftermarket coils. I'm not an expert, so I couldn't honestly say one way or another. I have found gold with all the coils over the years. That being said, many aftermarket coils such as Coiltek, Nugget Finder, Detach and other make great coils and other choices and configurations that Minelab don't make. The new coils are flat wind technology coils, so they are more sensitive and get a bit more depth than the older conventional Mono or DD coils. These coils would include the Coiltek Elite and Nugget Finder Evolution (EVO) series. Hope this helps a bit,

Hey Fishing8046, I have noticed over the years with the Pulse Induction metal detectors I have been able to get more depth and found gold I missed. I'm not sure if the ground is more conductive, or if the wet ground is eliminate more ground noise. That being said, it's seems to work with the PI's at least. If you have any old patch, I would recommend running across it a few days after a rain when the ground is moist, not soaking wet to see what you might turn up.

Hey Del, You got one of the last Burro's I had in stock, so Thanks for your business. The Hermit and Burro picks from Bunk are great prospecting tools. I'm hoping to get another batch of both in very soon. They are very well built and Bunk takes care of any issues that the pick might experience beyond normal wear and tear.

Hey Guys, Dennis - Thanks for your great help to a a new forum member and electronic gold prospector. Garik - As Dennis stated, gold can really be about anywhere. The easiest and most logical place would be to search the washes if you know they are shallow and contain some exposed bedrock. Thousands of years of errosion would make them the easiest place to find a nugget. That being said, this is also the location where all the rubbish and old-timers have probably worked, if it was rich enough. Keep in mind, the gold was coming from somewhere, probably some small quartz vein that is long eroded away and left potentially some gold on a hillside, slope, bench and some make it to the wash. I think the best patches to be found are the ones that most prospectors never search for. It's easy to run up and down washes, cherry picking the gold off of bedrock, but the big patch "could" be hiding on the hillside that has pounds of gold. Hope this helps a bit,

Hey Garik, In my opinion, the area and ground mineralization plays the biggest factor. The chart does give you a general base line of the timings and where they should work best. I always tell my customers, use the chart to start with, but experimenting at some point will be best. There are a lot of variables out there to say one timing is best for just a certain area. I have found deeper gold here in Arizona in Sensitive Extra vs. Fine Gold, but the chart would make you believe Fine gold timing is better for depth.
