  1. Hey Click, Could be Galena, a lead suphide and it does react to a good VLF detector such as a Gold Monster 1000. I have found many Galena nuggets in various sizes and even in the host rock like yours.
  2. Hello All, A customer of mine shared one of his beautiful gold nugget/specimen finds with me last weekend. The piece was found with a Minelab GPX metal detector and NF EVO searchcoil and weights 88+ Grams. Congrats on the amazing find!
  3. Hey Andy, Great report on the new X-coils. Hopefully they can get the issue corrected where you can use the Ferrite ring and not have to trick the detector or coil. In my opinion, Minelab could have sold hundreds of 11" round coils if they stuck with what they originally told us. I think with a Minelab 11" Round, stock 14x13 and larger 19", there wouldn't be too many uses for aftermarket. The GPZ is very powerful when it comes to sensitivity and depth, so one smaller coil might have made the majority of the GPZ users happy. Keep us updated on any further reports or findings. Thanks!
  4. Maybe the Tesla Company owner, Elon Musk should chase it down. He said if he could mine it, it would make everyone in the World a Millionaire.
  5. Hey Andy, I agree, I need to find the time while it's dry to get out and at least sample a few of the spots were we picked up a bunch of nuggets. There were a few bedrock stretches and inside bends that had a good amount of small gold nuggets and larger pieces. This might be the first couple of places to try and see what turns up. I agree, you always here all the success stories about finding gold, but very seldom does anyone post their "Skunk" stories. We all get the skunk from time to time, more so when you venture off and prospect new areas. I have a tendency to always find a nugget or two if I hunt old patches, crawling around and gridding, but that also gets old after awhile.
  6. Hey Guys, Thanks. I'm not sure if he patrols here anymore or not. I had a customer that was referred to talk with him about an old drywasher. If anyone can contact him, let me know. Thanks!
  7. Hey Guys, Adam - Ya, it's for sure a whisk broom handle. They were breaking up the breaking up the bedrock and sweeping it up. I think the old-timers "Broke for Bedrock" also! Fishing8046 - I never seen any prior signs of metal detecting or prospecting, at least in this spot. However, I'm sure someone at some point has poked around here with a VLF or some form of metal detector. Thanks for all the comments guys. Hope to see you both contributing more.
  8. Hey Guys, I didn't realize for some time that we didn't have Bunk's Hermit Prospecting Pick listed on our online store or Ebay. We have now listed it, thanks to some customers searching for them, as they are in very short supply. We carry both, the smaller version - Burro Pick and the larger Hermit Pick. Calvin "Bunk" makes two great picks and I use both all the time on my prospecting adventures. Here is the link for both, but the Burro is on backorder for a week or so - Hermit Pick - https://www.robsdetectors.com/bunks-hermit-prospecting-pick-hermit-pick/ Burro Pick - https://www.robsdetectors.com/the-burro-pick-24-inches/ Thanks!

  10. Hello All, I returned to the old placers again today to dig a ton of rubbish. I started out this morning around 4am and arrived around 6:15am at the detecting site. I continued to dig and push myself a bit longer until around 2pm. I ended up with 3 nuggets, biggest was 3.6 Dwt's, and a total of 5.4 Dwt's, or a bit over 1/4 ounce for the day. I dug probably 60 iron rubbish targets today. There is no question the old-timers were a bit sloppy in this spot, but since they camp right on site, there is no shortage or targets. Hope all your guys/gals kept the skunk off your back this weekend. P.S. The dark looking nugget, right below the square nail piece is the 3.6 Dwter.
  11. Hey Guys, Does anyone know if Rattlesnake Jim on this thread is still around or alive today? Would love any information if possible?
  12. Hey Guys, Ya, I'm sure all of us at some point in time were very close to some gold that we didn't find. In this case, sounds like the old-timers were digging or tunneling down and just missed this chuck by a few feet. Makes you wonder if that piece was there, what the old-timers did recover?
  13. Hey Guys, I'm sure you will enjoy this video if you haven't seen it yet. One heck of a nugget found down there .....
  14. Hey Guys, I know the history of this area dates back to the mid to late 1800's, but it's been worked from then to probably 50-60's. There isn't any modern settlements around the area, just old rock buildings in the nearby area.
  15. Hey Guys, Well at least I wasn't the only one that experienced very little drywashable gold in some washes/gulches/ravines. GPX Power - I would agree with what you said, but one wash I found back in the mid 90's has hundreds of small gold nuggets from about a grain to 12-15 grains being the biggest. Some of the inside bends were so rich in small gold nuggets, I had to crawl around on my hands and knees plucking them from the schist cracks. I attempted to vac and drywash this spot with very disappointing results. I thought due to the small gold and nuggets it would be rich in fines, flakes and 1-2 grainers too deep for my detector at the time. Does anyone have a spot where I could just get an ounce a day ....?
  16. Hey Guys, This thread was started back in 2011, interesting that someone read it and brought it back to life. I have only been to Show Low a few times for work purposes. I was able to walk for several hours in the flat searching for meteorites with no luck. Hopefully someone is finding the gold in or around Show Low!
  17. Hello All, Over the last 20+ years of metal detecting I have used just about everything to help support the weight of a detector. As technology got better over the years, some of the detectors like the Garrett ATX, Minelab SD/GP/GPX series and Minelab GPZ 7000 weight in from 5-7+ pounds. Doc now makes a new bungee kit, seen at this link below that does wonders in my opinion. https://www.robsdetectors.com/docs-the-amazing-qweegle-double-adjustment-point-bungee/ For anyone that has a heavy detector, or has some type of back, shoulder, wrist weakness or injury, this is the ticket. The strap can wrap around practically any metal detector on the market, round, square shaft, don't matter! Heck, for $24.95, it's worth the investment in my opinion. I have a lower back injury and this Bungee does absolute wonders!

  19. Hello All, Hopefully some of you were able to get out for a short hunt on Father's Day. I left this morning around 3am and arrived at this old placer location around 5:30am. I hunted with the Minelab GPZ 7000 metal detector for about 4 hours and ended up with a handful of iron rubbish, a few non-ferrous targets and 3 gold nuggets. There is a gulch in this location that is stacked from the top to bottom, but the amount of rubbish the old-timers left makes it difficult to detect. I could only dig so many targets before I was exhausted from digging along with the heat. I was lucky enough to find the larger nugget, 4.1 Dwts during the first 15 minutes. The other two nuggets were 2.6 Dwt's & 0.7 Dwts. Not too bad for a quick hunt. I wish I could just click my fingers and the iron rubbish was removed from this gulch. I believe there is a lot of gold left, making me wonder why the old-timers were so sloppy. I guess they did so well here what we are finding now didn't compare to what they recovered. Its still out there ..... P.S. Doc's new "Amazing Qweegle Bungee Cord" works wonders on the GPZ. This is the best bungee to date I have used, much better than any previous version or Minelab's.
  20. Hello All, Going through some old inventory I found (2) brand new Coiltek 12x8.5" Platypus Waterproof Searchcoils that will work on any of the Minelab Explorer series or E-Trac. These were super hot selling coils back in the day. I'm not sure how I had two still left that were overlooked. I'm asking $100 shipped for each coil. Call or email us if you have any questions. 22. Hey Guys, Thanks for all the comments. I think I will attempt at some point to work this creek and see what turns up. I know due to the nature of the gold, there should be little pieces in the cracks and crevices.
