  1. Hey Ivan, I will post a picture of what I'm using, but love the Walco picks, always have. That being said, they are not being sold in the US anymore, only Australia. At one point I was selling hundreds of Walco W3's per year. Another major player now in the US is Apex Picks. I know the owners pretty well and they are manufacturing some high end picks, but are a bit pricey. If you want quality, you will have to pay for it. I've had plenty of $30-50 picks sent to me over the years to use, I've broke all of them.
  2. Hey Folks, Buy your XP Deus from Rob's Detectors! His customer service was top notch, great communication pre and post sale and he had the best price I could find in North America for a new XP Deus. I have had my machine out for 10 hours now and love the super light weight and amazing recovery speed. It sees coins on top of trash with nails in the hole too. Now its time to dig into the custom menus and set up a program that can see my Canadian clad coins! Cause much as I like finding pennies, two dollar coins buy more gas while waiting for the gold! 5. Hey Guys, I ended up doing some research and talking with a bunch of guys at work that 4x4. I had great success in the past with BFG's, so I decided to order a set of BFG All-Terrain KO2's. They are slightly a bit taller and wider than my stock tires, but I think they will do. I don't plan on really 4x4ing my 2500HD, but at least now I know they have much better sidewall protection then before. I think the new tires I have are 8 or 10 ply sidewall. Thanks for all the advice, suggestions and personal experiences with tires.
  6. Hey Chris, Great finds and Thanks for sharing!! No question it has been hot and even a bit humid that last few weeks. Looking forward to working the GPZ pretty hard this Winter season. I just about have my paid for on old patches, sounds like you do also. Wishing you much more success!
  7. Hey Guys, Thanks for the comments. I just used an old toothbrush and dish soap. Just a light scrubbing with the soap and brush and they come pretty clean. I have a nice Ultra-sonic cleaner with a Gold & Silver solution, but I didn't want to dig it out.
  8. Hey Guys, Yes, there is Blue Quartz on a few of the larger pieces, some ironstone, some typical white dirty quartz and a small portion of pink quartz (some call it Rose Quartz) on the long piece. In the Northern Bradshaw Mountains, the gold is associated with Gray or Blue quartz beyond the normal white. I have also seen some beautiful Rose Quartz specimens found. I personally think it depends on the minerals available and temps of the melt or cooling. All this can alter the color of quartz.
  9. Hello All, Here is the cleaned pictures I promised. I think they turned out beautiful. Yes, the GPZ 7000 loves this type of gold, especially at depth. That being said, the GPZ really like all gold. I'm finding solid pieces, specimens and ironstone stuff I missed before. So what do you think, the source is nearby?
  10. Hey Guys, Ok, here you go. They really turned out beautifully. You think these traveled far from the source?? Minelab GPZ 7000, two short trips. Almost an ounce of gold.
  11. Boulder Dash, I have one, but you can only put a teaspoon of material in at a time. You said 2-5 per hour, not sure if you meant teaspoons, shovel scoops, yards .....
  12. Hello All, Here is a picture of two small batches of nuggets I found on my last two short trips with the GPZ 7000. As much as I want to see their true character under the dirt, I have always hated cleaning my nuggets. I guess once you clean them, you can't put the dirt back on ..... haha .... What are you thoughts, clean them? 28.1 Grams for two short hunts is not too bad. Minelab GPZ 7000 Metal Detector in "BEAST MODE!"
  13. Hey Guys, I used to have an old beater truck that I used for the hills only, it was a GMC 2000 4x4 with over 280,000 miles when I sold it to my partner. I ran nothing but BFG All-Terrains and never had a flat. I decided to purchase a new vehicle a few years back, a GMC 2013 2500HD Diesel. The stock 20-inch tires are Goodyear. They seemed pretty good, but I guess the sidewall rating wasn't. I'm sure they are good for "load rating," but not driving them off-road. I still have my quad, it's a 2007 Polaris 500 4x4 and it runs like a champ. I just hate loading the trailer or the quad in the truck. I guess I will need to start taking the quad or invest in some good tires for off-road. I heard good reviews of the new BFG All-Terrains. Dakota Slim - The EMI is minimal at best, nothing like the prior GPX units. That being said, the GPZ purrs along for the most part, if I get any weird noise I dub it on EMI. Today was just noisy, some minor storms and rain where I was, I'm sure that contributed.
  14. Hello All, Well I decided to venture into the goldfields again today, figured this might be the only chance here in the next month to beat the 100+ degree temps. I left my place at 3:30am and arrived at the detecting location before Sunup. I waited around for about 15 minutes, before venturing to the spot I wanted to try out. I hunted for about 5 hours, found 4 gold nuggets and two iron trash targets. It was a tough hunt, the EMI was worst than ever and it was very humid. After about an hour, my shirt was soaked from top to bottom. I was pleased with the 4 nuggets, all really rough in character. The largest was 4.3 Grams (long piece), 3.6 Grams and two 1/2 Grammers. I'm happy with 8+ Grams (over 1/4 ounce) for such a short hunt and an old pounded placer area. The GPZ 7000 is truly an amazing metal detector. I'm looking forward to this Winter season where I can really get out and push this unit to it's full potential. Now for the bad part - I was heading out of the area traveling down a steep, narrow bedrock type road. Wouldn't you know in the roughest spot possible, I blow out a front tire. I have nowhere to pull off, as the road was only a foot or so wider than my vehicle. I spent over an hour fighting with changing the front tire on the worst road condition possible. Somehow I hit a rock in the bank or sharp rock in the road and it blew the sidewall out instantly. I made it back home safe for another trip to the hills soon enough. Hope you're all having a great 3-day weekend!
  15. Hey Bill, Yep, I remember that. I guess the reason I do what I do is "I wouldn't want to be in that spot and someone not support me." I have had customers call before and say their dealer is not answering the phone or getting back with them and they are stranded without a part to detect. That would suck, so I don't want that to happen to anyone that I can reach out and support.
  16. Hey Guys, I finally placed my new Doc's Goldscreamer Cover on my GPZ 7000. Damn, the cover and all parts fits perfect. I'm down to just a couple left, but if anyone is looking this cover is well worth the investment to protect your $10,000 metal detector.
  17. Hey Doc, Great finds. Nice thing about your area is known gold nuggets and meteorites. Thanks for sharing!
  18. Hey All, I finally got a stock of the Yellow Ferrite Rings back in stock. I shipped a few out this morning. Let me know if you still need one if you're a customer of mine. If I have any remaining, I don't mind shipping you one. Thanks!
  19. Hey Tortuga, Any beers? ..... LOL I think I might try to get out one day this 3 day weekend. It felt good getting back out with the GPZ.
  20. Hey Californiagold, Thanks once again for the comments. There are a handful of "great dealers" out there in my opinion. The great dealers offer good prices, support, training & bundles. The price is really secondary, I would be more interested in the fact I could call a guy and ask him questions if I was struggling with an issue.
  21. Hello All, Here are the new GPZ 7000 control box covers - http://www.robsdetectors.com/gpz-7000-control-box-cover
  22. Hey Doc and All, Great looking covers. Many have been waiting for these to protect their investment. I have added them to my online store with free shipping at this link below - http://www.robsdetectors.com/gpz-7000-control-box-cover
  23. Hey Gary, Congrats, looks like you can get a goodie now.
  24. Hey Californiagold, I know everyone probably thinks we are laughing all the way to the bank, but it's not like that (at least anymore). The profits are getting smaller all the time, more and more dealers willing to "degrade" a product brand by discounting to make a quick buck, so it's more work than ever. Good dealers have to rely on their "service and training." We appreciate your business and hope you pass our name around in the Goldfields. We always promise to treat our customers right and give them the best support beyond the sale. Wishing you much more luck out there.
  25. Hey Guys - Tom - I should probably start cleaning them, showing a dirt and then cleaned shot. I used to do this, but now just take a picture and toss them in the pouch. Glenn - Yes, it's that spot! Doc - We know there are some lumps in Gold Basin, we both have seen them. Biggest I ever found at Gold Basin was a 3/4 slug in one of the gullies many years back. All the other nuggets were a Gram or so. CaliforniaGold - Ya, wife don't care anymore. She knows I'm good for paying for them, paid for all my detectors in nuggets (some models faster than others). Congrats on your recent finds. Tortuga - Well .... You going to post it?
