  1. Hey Uncle Ron and Fishing8046, I agree with you about re-visiting old spots. I have found some decent gold after re-visiting an old spot that hasn't been hunted in a few years. I also think when you hunt an area all the time, you kind of loose focus and the area becomes kind of boring.

  4. Hey Bob, Excellent finds. Are you using the Goldbug still? The one on the right looks like it has some great character to it. Hope you find some more.
  5. Hey Guys/Gals, Rob's 50/50 Method to Find New Gold with a Metal Detector Goldfields across the Globe have been pounded with old and new detector technology, so how do you potentially find new virgin ground? This is something that is difficult for many, they want to continue to pound old, known fields. Trust me, it's difficult for me also, as I know I can almost always pull a few small ones from old patches if I'm willing to spent the time hunting slowly. What I tell many of my customers about finding new patches is this. It's very hard to re-program yourself to explore new ground as the chance of getting skunked (recovering no gold) is very high. However, if you would happen to find a new location, there is no telling what the potential could be (grams, ounces or pounds). I recommend if possible this 50/50 method. We all like to bring home a nugget or two if possible, so I will hunt either some gold ground in the morning and hopefully eliminate the skunked by getting a dink or so. I then concentrate the second part of the day searching new ground. This method sometimes allows you to get a piece of gold, eliminate the skunk and explore new ground all on the same day. Each time in the field, you are at least making an attempt to find new locations. It's all a process of elimination in my book, you hunt the best you can on that ground and then you don't have to hunt it again. I recommend having a "Plan of Attack" prior to the hunt. Know where you're going to hunt some old patches or ground, then have a plan to attack some new country on the outskirts of known gold locations. If you do this enough, I would almost guarantee some new gold and hopefully some decent patches to your poke! Just some suggestions that have worked for me in the past. Below is a picture of some nice specimens we found exploring some new ground years ago not very far from a very well known placer area here in Western Arizona.
  6. Hey Jen, I had a feeling someone would comment. It's actually a table we have set up so my Daughter can do all her crafts. The table is destroyed from Play-Doh, Glue, Slime and other stuff my Daughter had made over the years.

  8. Hey Chris, Thanks for sharing the remaining Gold Monster 1000 videos here. I have browsed through them quickly, but will watch them over again when I get a bit more free time. Great job on them and thanks for sharing!
  9. Hello Guys, I completed the firmware update and it took about 5 minutes at the most. I've had a few customer call and get stumped after the download. Just a FYI, you have to unplug the USB cord from the GPZ to start the download process. Here are the stepped I done to complete the firmware quickly - Download the latest firmware version from Minelab's page here - http://www.minelab.com/usa/metal-detectors/gold-detectors/gpz-7000?view=downloads I downloaded (not opened) the firmware version onto my Desktop. Once you plug the USB into the GPZ and your computer or laptop, you should see the drive open. If not, you can use "My Computer" to view all the drives on a Window's PC. Once you located the Minelab drive, mine was the F drive, then you can "drag" the downloaded file from the desktop to the Minelab drive. You will see the GB file size go from like 79GB or so to like 84+ GB. You will know the file was added. Then, this is where some customers got confused, remove the USB cord from the GPZ and the download will start. You will see what it shows in Picture 1 below. Once the download is complete on the GPZ, it will ask you to confirm the update, with either "CANCEL or the CHECK MARK." Press the Check mark button on the GPZ and it will start the firmware on the GPZ. Once completed, the GPZ 7000 will shut off. Once you turn it back on, the firmware will be complete and you can verify you have this version on the last menu page - Control Panel: 1.10.8-2052 and Control Box: 2.4.4-127 Hope this helps a bit. Check out the picture below if needed. Don't hesitate to call or email us if you have questions completing the download.
  10. Hey Dennis, I agree with you. Over the years I have hunted around the National Forest in Prescott and even down South in some of the Forest regions. I have seen a few smaller Black Bears, but they always seems to be taking off when they encounter you. In Alaska I always felt more at ease detecting with a partner and both guys armed. If for some reason, one guy went down, hopefully the other guy armed could at least scare the bear away from you until both guys could re-group. When you're detecting, I have found you focus and concentrate more looking downward where you're detecting and not so much watching your surroundings. If you're wearing headphones, it's also much harder to hear something coming up on you. I guess I'm one of those guys that would rather have a firearm and equipment needed just in case, rather than after the fact wishing I had it. Just my thoughts.
  11. Hey Dennis, It will be very interesting to hear about. I know you're a very methodical hunter, along with Rod, so maybe he can snip a few out of there with the newer technology and maybe the new firmware update might give the GPZ a bit more edge for depth. Keep us updated if you would.
  12. Hello All, Just want to wish everyone out there a Happy 4th of July, 2017. For all the prospectors searching for Gold during these hotter Summer months, please stay hydrated and find a bunch of gold!
  13. Hello All, Minelab just released a new GPZ 7000 Firmware update. The major feature of this new firmware update is "Ground Smoothing." This function implements selectable noise filters that help deal with difficult ground, especially salty soils. The new Ground Smoothing options provide several advantages: Reduce noise effects of salty soils Allows detecting in previously "off limits" locations Improved depth with both coils Maximizes your ground coverage efficiency There are three options under Ground Smoothing, OFF (originally on the GPZ), Locate Patch and Salty Soil. The New "Locate Patch" option is great all-rounder that enables you to cover more ground. Its smooths out unwanted noise while you keep a productive swing speed. The New "Salty Soil" option allows you to operate in previously off-limits salty (extreme alkali and conductive) environments. It should only be used when the soil requires it, because it can have an impact on detection depth. The other new feature is "Semi Auto" Ground balance mode. Additional control and flexibility for expert users Improved ground balance stability Another option to deal with tricky detecting conditions A specialist tool for expert prospectors This new option has three features - Auto, Semi-Auto and Manual. You can read more about the firmware update and how to download it on the attached PDF file below- GPZupdate1.pdf If you have questions, you can always call us anytime!
  14. Hey Doc, Been on vacation for over a week. Here is a late Congrats from Dawn and I. Dawn and I are closing in our 10th year, but we have been together since were we were both 21 years old. I thought I could play the single game much longer, but kind of got "You're going to Marry me or ......... we dated only 14 years ..... LOL My Wife like to say, "Happy Wife, Happy Life!" I guess that means more Horses, another new house ..... You have a very special wife! Congrats!
  15. Hey Doc, I probably tossed the boots out, but will check the Garage. If so, I will send them back, but I doubt since it's been awhile they are worth sending back and out of the 1 year warranty. Looking forward to the new boots your going to carry.
  16. Hey Dennis, Keep us updated on that test. I know Rod is a very good hunter, so it could be a good challenge for Rod and the GPZ 7000 on that patch.
  17. Hey Guys, I never experienced a Grizzy or Brown bear, but did experience an encounter with a huge Black bear at Moore's Creek. I was several miles down river from Steve's Moore's Camp with several friends. We all branched out for the day, but stayed in communication with 2-way radio's. I was working some tailing piles right along Moore's Creek waterway. As I was working through some thick Alder's, I finally got out into a small clearing. As I looked up, not more than 50 yards away was a huge Black bear looking right at me. I had not clue what to do, as I froze up. I had a Ruger 9mm (pea shooter to a bear) as a weapon. Before I could even think the Black bear bluff charged me! It sure seems like he was closer, but I would guess 20 yards away. I thought about running back up the tailing pile, but figured I would have a chance. I even thought about diving into the water and hoping I could get across the other side, but heard Bear's are great swimmers also. After probably a minute, the Black bear grunted a few times and turned around slowly and walked away. I managed to take that time and haul ass out of there and call on my 2-way about the bear. After that experience it was hard to concentrate on detecting, as I kept thinking one was always around watching. Back at camp, several guys said I was lucky as if a Black bear was hungry he would have fought me to the death. Black's can be very aggressive if they are hungry, Brown bears you can play dead and hope you can surive the beating and bites.
  18. Hello All, We have returned from a short California vacation, so just wanted to let everyone know we are back in the office for business and will be packing all orders that processed while we were gone today/tomorrow. Thanks for all the business while we were gone.
  19. Hello All, I have seen this guy talk about the attack, but never this complete video about how it happened. I couldn't imagine the pain the guy went through .....
  20. Hey AZ-Sourdough, Nice display of various rough gold - to wire gold. The only decent amount of wire I found over the years was in a small gulch up in the Northern Bradshaws from drywashing. A friend found a nice 2+ ounce "wire nugget ball" there on bedrock, which lead us to start placering the gulch. The wire nugget still had fragments of quartz inside the wires. I will see if I can dig up a picture of it. It was one of the most pristine gold nugget/specimens I have seen detecting. He had several offers from gold collectors at 3-4 times the spot value at that time, but didn't want to sell.
  21. Hey Guys, Hopefully for the ones that want it, a smaller coil might come around for the GPZ 7000. If Minelab continued this series, the GPZ for an extended time like the SD, GP or GPX, then I could see a benefit for them. It took a lot of time for the 19-inch GPZ coil to get released, way after the promised release date. If there is a smaller coil, my gut feeling is they want to get it right and not promise a release at some point and not get near that date. When it comes to the right conditions like AZ-Sourdough stated, I use the SDC. It's quite expensive to have a SDC 2300 and a GPZ 7000, but last winter I used the SDC on long hikes and exploration runs to see if "any" gold was at these locations. If I found something worthwhile and thought the GPZ would be beneficial there, I would hike back with the heavy monster. I haven't tried it on "small wires" so there is a good chance I could miss those, but pick up the small 1-2 grain flat or round pieces at or near bedrock with ease. It also handled the hotrocks and mineralization better than a GB2, plus the added depth from a super sensitive PI. That all being said, the VLF's are much lighter than even a backpack Pulse Induction SDC 2300.
  22. Hey Doc and Jen, Rod and I did a lot of "Horse Trading" on this GPZ deal. I'm not sure why he didn't get one, or why I didn't mention it. I think Rod has something else in mind, or maybe a custom one he was going to make. Either way, I'm sure Rod will make sure the $8000 metal detector is protected good in the field.
  23. Hello All, Here seems to be a nice day of dredging in New Zealand. Looks like a place called Moke Creek. If dredging was like this often I would never get out of the water. I still love dredging (preferably clear water), but the water is so seasonal here in Arizona.
  24. Hey Jen, Ya, no offends to Doc, the boots were nice and at the time they were the only No-Metal I could find. The last pair I had the entire sole ripped off like on the third hunt out. I ended up using Shoe Goop to fasten the sole back to the bottom. I also had problems like you shown along with the outer front sides ripping out. Bottom line, Doc has always treated his dealers and customers top notch, but the Bates Boots don't get my top approval anymore.
